Well finally Sunday @ 6pm they discharged me.   I talked with the dr at 10:00, told me I could go, around 4:00 we went asking when, of course the answer was no one told us.  So anyway, Dr. B said I was the hardest yet-lap gastric-  He had to fill me with so much gas-just to get the instruments in.  My problem today is the diarehha-they gave me a stool stoofner on friday.  I have to go today to take out my drain.  Still on pain meds and nausea meds for now. Anyone has this issue after and how did you resolve it?  I did take some immodium did'nt seem to work.  Just checking to see if anyone has any tricks.  I also have this bad belching JoAnn

So were they able to do it lapro?  I had alot and I mean alot of gas pain when I left the hospital, it felt like something was wrong in there but they assured me it was just gas, and they were right.  You will feel alot better when they take the drain out. I am not sure exactly how long it is, but that thing suprised me when they took it out. Diana said, breath in and out. I did, and she said,,,,nooope keep going. I am guessing it was 2-3 feel long, and its curled up in your abdomin area. I couldnt believe how much pressure was relieved when they removed it.  All I can say about your diet and getting sick is eat what you can. Fluids are most important. You dont want to end up with an IV back in your arm. I had my surgery done on 5/23:)

They took the drain out today, not to bad, but it was really long.   Dr told me the diarehha was just my bowels waking up and to put up with for a few more days, he wants them good and woke up.  Working on the fluids though.  Very hard to try and remember all day long and sleep and take pain meds and bathroom.  I know each day will be better.  I asked him about the belching, this was common way to expel that gas, just put up with it and keep hydrated.  No I do not want to go back for IV fluids.   The pain is real hard to staigthen up when I walk, but it will get better with time.   Thanks for the advice.

I had  diarrhea for 2 weeks after surgery. It stopped when I started on full liquids and I haven't had any problems with it since. The gas is normal after any laproscopic surgery since they have to inflate your abdomen to get the instruments in and see what they are doing. I had it for almost a week and it was extremely painful. I found that walking was the best way to ease it up. Hang in there, it only gets better with time as the first couple of weeks is the worse part. Take care! Mary

Hi JoAnn, I too had my surgery by Dr. Byrne.  Mine was 4/30/08.  I was to be lap, but ended up at the very end of surgery to be open.  So I had a double whammy.  I almost 6 weeks out and still having pain from it.  Still kinda hard to stand straight with out it being really tight.   I never had a bowel problem, but as for belching, I am still doing it.  I even get the hick-ups almost every day!  As they all say it does get better in time.  Just remember to drink all that you can.  Take care and welcome to the losing side!

Hi JoAnn, welcome to the losing side.  The first couple of weeks are rough, but hang in there and you will be fine.  I found sugar free popsicles were a good way to get some fluid and satisfied me.  As they say, just sip, sip, sip and you will be fine.  Don't worry about the protein amounts, etc. for now, that will come. Keep us posted on how you are doing.
