Did anyone have this feeling after surgery???

I have this feeling like something is stuck in my throat.  Like a grit.  It sometimes makes me gag.  I am not sure if it was where they had the tube down my throat or the tube in my nose.  I just can't get that feeling to go away.  Also, before surgery I could brush my teeth okay.  Now I get sick or almost get sick every time.  My gag reflex is horriable now.  I used to be able to brush my whole tongue, now just like the tip of it without gagging.  I just wanted to see if anyone had this also??  And if so, how did you get the feeling of something in your throat out???  Thanks for all your help!!!

i SWORE To my doctor that i had a staple come loose out of my stomach and traveled up my throat and got lodged in there!!! LOL I could *FEEL* something in my throat.. but it eventually went away.. maybe you have the irritation from being intubated doing it to you.. and yes i was more gag sensitive after, it DOES get better!

I hav always been "gaggy" every morning I would gag when I brushed my teeth and not much has changd there, but the feeling in your throat I had that too for a few days but it went away. Not sure what  it was but it was very uncomfortable. How long have you had this feeling? I would say if it doesn't resolve call your MD just to be on the safe side. P&PT's.

Hang in there Angie.  All of these things get better.  Just don't try to brush your tongue right now...I promise it will get better.....

Yup - totally been there, done that.  It goes away with time.  Warm drinks helped me a LOT.  Teas, coffees, SF cocoa, anything I could get my hands on & down my throat.  Hang in there, hon - it will get a WHOLE lot easier!  And the results will outweigh the challenges!

Just wanted to say Thanks!  I will be glad when the feeling is gone.  I am feeling so much better.  The only thing is that my chest is still tight.  I have been getting up an moving a lot more.  Just glad to be able to move freely.  Again thank you all for your comments!  This site is just the best!!
