Anyone had Adjustable Lap Band with Dr.Byrnes
I am presently filling out my paperwork to start my process for Adjustable Lap Band Surgery. I have heard good things about Dr. Byrnes at MUSC and I wondered if any of you have used him for the adjustable band and how everything has gone. I know I can't base my outcome on someone else but I just feel like the more information I collect the better I will feel.
I attended the night seminar that Dr Byrnes does and he went over all of the different procedures. For some reason I got the feeling that he put the adjustable band at the bottom of his preferred surgeries.
Thanks for any info.

Hi,
I had the RNY with Dr Byrne in Sept., 2005. I can't say much about the lapband but I can tell you that I trust him 100%. Dr. Byrne understands the pain and predujice that we face as being overweight. I know that he prefers the RNY but I've seen some people have great success with the lapband.
Good luck to you

Hello, I'm a patient of Dr. Byrne, who does in fact work with Dr. Morgan, she is great also, I would like to say........ Stop right there, no more negative thinking , first of all, do not be nervous, (i know easier said than done) your talking o a major hyperchondriac, I thought the same thing I was going to get the lap band, because i thought the gastric bypass was gross. But........... after coaxing frm several freinds and family members that got the gastric i reluctuntly , fearfully, thought i was the one that was going to die, not wake up, from the surgery changed my mind, took a deep breathe and right in the middle of the shopping at target i was called from Lisa the coordinator about which surgery i wanted i just said the gastric. when i hung up the phone i thought what have i done. By the grace of god, and a lot of prayers, I came to realize this is a surgery that these Dr.s, nurse &staff do EVERYDAY, and after being a patient in that new beautiful facility that was constructed for this type of surgery they are specialists, , they take excellent care of you. Just think about whatever job that you do, or whatever you do the best in life that you love to do with ease, and that someone would trust you with, That's what these people do everyday, it is with love and professionalism, they want the best for you, to lose weight succesfully & without any problems. Tomorrow is my 8th week with the gastric bypass, I have lost 36 pounds, i dont feel like anything is different in my stomach, unless i eat to fast, bad habit, i thought I would feel different in my stomach or some weird sensation, I havent even experianced dumping syndrome, i feel normal i just cant eat like i used to, YEA!!!!!!!!
Please do this procedure whichever you choose. im glad i chnged my mind and chose gastric because like i said i have lost 36 pounds, i thought i was going to lose like 50 pounds in two weeks which seems unhealthy to me, again not true, i am losing like 4 pounds a week. I understand the weight loss with the lap band is slower. I am very very satisfied you wold be surprised how better i feel with just 36 pounds gone. go for it dont be scared you have one of the best facilities in the country, as well as the Dr.s, nurses & staff. Just think eight weeks after your surgery you will be telling someone the same thing. By the way i am 45 year old female, and was 270. God bless, I am hear to talk if you need. Jo Lynn
JoLynn,Thank you so much for your informative and comforting reply. I trying to get enough confidence and knowledge to make a decision to do this. I am 58 with pretty good health. I am 100 lbs. overweight and my knees are killing me.
I want to be here to play with my grandchildren.
Your message really got to me. I have got to quit this chicken attitude and get this done. I thinkyou nailed it on the head with the possitive attitude.ang
I had a consult with Dr. Byrne for Lap Band, and at the time they had only done 8. I'm sure they've done more now, but experience is very important with LB. If RNY had been for me, I would have definately gone with the MUSC team. They are state of the art. I am very happy with my choice to have Lap Band with the doctor I selected. Since we are all coming with different needs and experiences, this isn't a one size fits all decision. Good luck on your decision.
