Has anyone had blood clotting issues prior to your gastric bypass surgery and if so how was it handled?

Hello I am not sure if this helps...but I have had 3 blots in both of my  legs prior to My GBS.  (over the past 10 years).  I was very concerned going into surgery.....but my hospital and my surgeon have protcools they follow. I received shots 3 times a day (Coumdin or Heprin...I am not sure now).  Plus I walked alot n the hospital and at home....because I did not want any problems.  It was one of my biggest concerns. Hope this helps! Angela

Thanks that help.  My surgeon made any appt. for me to see a specialist to see if anything should be done,I just don't want blood clots to be the reason why I don't get the bypass surgery.

I have heard that you can get clot blockers put in they are called greenfield filters. I am not having them put in but it never hurts to ask.

I had one clot before RNY & my Dr Insisted on placing a filter in, when i questioned him in depth about it, his respose was that if i wanted to die, go & allow somebody do the surgery withoiut one BUT he wasnt going to be the one that killed me lol boy he was right on, 2.5 post op,I had came off the blood thinners so I could have another procedure done ,seprate from the RNY all together & came off the thinners for 5 days , 5th day I awoke with clots in BOTH legs & ultra sound showed that it was clotted all the way to the filter ,,,, can you imagine what would have happened if the filter wasnt in place ? Wife would be rich now ,because I am sure i would be dead !!!  Thanks Dr. Antonetti !!
