It even drove me to smoking today!!! THANKS BLUE CROSS! U FREAKIN IDIOTS!  the lady said "Well in the letter of approval it said that this wasn't a guarantee for payment" i said "WHAT LETTER?!? THE ONE THAT KATHY(the nurse who approved me) SAID SHE FORGOT TO MAIL TO ME BECAUSE SHE WAS TOO BUSY?!? THAT ONE? THANKS! NOW I HAVE EVEN MORE REASON TO SUE YOU!" *******s.  NOT TO MENTION THE FACT THAT I COULD OF WENT TO HIS FACILITY NOT USING THE HOSPITAL AND PAID 8K for the WHOLE THING WITHOUT INSURANCE, NOW IM STUCK WITH 30 GRAND!?!?! I am really pissed off for you, but insurance companies and their screwed up thinking never surprises me. I think you are right for taking this to a lawyer I would fight it until the end too. Don't let them drive you to smoking though it will slow you healing from your plastics :( I quit in November and it has been hard as heck so I completely understand though.

Jen,     I know and have had friends who have reported things like this to the state Insurance board.  I'll send you the link.  That usually helps a lot because Insurance companies have the complaints tracked and it can have repercussions. M

when you look at it like this.. if youre going to buy a new house, you call the bank and get a pre-approval right? Well.. you get approved. you buy the house.. they pay the builder.. ETC.. WELL When they pre-approve you for a surgery, you get the surgery! They should pay the damn bill! im so livid. they knew when they approved me that I had lost 150 lbs it was in the letter for approval.. so if they are trying to deny me on grounds of my losing 150 lbs now then they should of never approved me to begin with.. THATS My problem. *******s.. i will not pay this. i will go to the State house if i have to. it should be illegal!

Sorry your having more problems. So, they have bent you over and stuck it to you, just like most insurance companies  are famous for doing. You have to make sure you read their fine print or chit like this can happen. I got stuck with a bill because my family doctor forgot to get "approval" for me to go to a specialist. I assumed it was all taken care of and it wasn't. I fought them over it and ended up having to pay the bill just because it was in our policy that prior approval is necessary before you can be refered to any specialist, they said that even though the doctor usually does it, I should have followed through and made sure it was done, so it was "CLAIM DENIED", no if's, an's or but's about it. Unfortunetely they have there ways of doing crap like that and getting away with it.  As far as pre-approval for mortgages goes, that isn't a guarentee either, we got screwed when selling our house and lost a lot of money over a deal gone bad. The couple had a pre-approal letter and we got to the day before the closing and found out  from the lawyer, that was going to do the closing, that they  still had never received anything from our agent or from the couples mortgage company, so  none of the paper work was even able to be done in time. The lawyer then found that the reason they had never received anything was because tthe couple never did qualify for the mortgage after all. We took them and Prudental realestate to court to try to recover some of our expenses and we lost. In fact the couple turned around and sued us to pay for their lawyer and we had to pay them 1500.00 on top of all the money we had already lost for apartment rental, moving van, termite inspection, and then having to have all our utlilites turned back on. The judge agreed they screwed us over by leading us to believe the whole time that everything was going through and our agent even told us everything was good and that they wanted us out of the house the morning of the closing, so we had everything in the moving van ready to leave that morning and we never even had a closing. So  going by the law ,he had to say they were not responsible for any expenses we incurred only because legally they "didn't qualify" for a mortgage and that's about the only way you can get out of a contract without losing  your earnest money. It sucks and I still believe that the law works for  criminals, corporations, and other big wigs, and the little folk like us get the chitty end of the stick. It's not right but it still happens. I sure hope you get somewhere with it, that's a lot of money to have to pay out of pocket and it's not right for them to make someone think they are approved then turn around and say your claim is denied. Fight for what's right and good luck. Hugs! Mary

WOW.....Hang in there. DO NOT GIVE UP- FIGHT THE WHOLE THING. I have worked in Billing and Medical Records my entire life.  You need to get an copy of the letter (that you  never received).  WHy is called an "approval" letter...if you were not aprpoved??  If you need help with anything..let me know.  I can write some bad- A$$ letters!   I have gotten free airline tickets..etc...for my complaining letters.  I would be pissed off too.  That is why when my insurance approved for GBS..I made sure what the wording said!  Ugh I hate this for you.  I feel you pain.  BUT DO NOT GIVE UP! FIGHT IT ALL THE WAY!! I will help in anyway possible! Angela
