Question?
This is going to sound really silly...I'm sure, but I was wondering if throwing up hurts after GBP (RNY)? I haven't had my surgery yet and was told to expect it sometime in May. I know that the throwing up is a common thing after this procedure, but I have a very serious fear of throwing up anyway, and I was just wondering about this.
Several years ago my heart stopped beating while throwing up, and I had to be rushed to the hospital, so that's the reason for my fear of it. I know it's a natural process for everyone from time to time...although not a pleasant one. I can't imagine that there's even very much to throw up after surgery.
I aplolgize for this question, but I was just curious.

I was the throw up queen before surgery.. I could puke when i wanted, on spot..
now i cant "Throw up" like a normal person at all. if i get something stuck, it gets really foamy and just slides up.. and it comes out. its very weird. not painful.. just weird. and nasty!
but i can't throw up even if I wanted to.

Hi Wanda,
If it makes you feel any better I have only thrown up 3 or 4 times since surgery (and I am 10 months out) and each time it was from dry meat - chicken in particular. If you follow what the Nutritionists tell you, you should be fine. Just make sure you eat very tender meats. You will do fine. If I can help you any time just post here or send me a PM.
I would see why you would be scared after that but let me tell you it is so funny the first time I threw up all I did was open my mouth & it come out like it is so hard to explain but if you had RYN you know what I mean no strain at all it just comes up some times I open my mouth & there it is gross I know but it is not a strain at all ,& I get alot of fomies also not throw up but you will be fine

This my dear, is not a silly question, lol. I would be concerned too if my heart stopped while puking. Like everyone else has said already, make sure you chew your food really good so it doesn't get stuck going down, that's the part that hurts. I have never been a graceful puker, but now if my food gets hung, ( and it does on occasion when I don't chew good) I just open my mouth and it's like Jen says, its kind of foamy and helps the food slide right out. I have never had the entire contents of my pouch come up, it's always been just what was stuck and it doesn't hurt, infact it's a big relief. If your not knot headed like I am and take your time and chew till it's pulverized you might not have a problem, the pain of the food sticking should cure most people of eating too fast, I just forget sometimes, lol.
Hugs!
