Hi, Melody!  I read your post after I typed in mine & wanted you to know that no matter what - I'm very glad I had the surgery and my life is definitely changing because of it. Yes, I was scared, nervous, excited, and a thousand & one other emotions.  I've heard a lot of great things about Dr. Bour & know that he's good.   We'll all be keeping you in our prayers - so know that we're here & you're in great company! Hugs -

Hi Melody, You have made a great choice with Dr. Bour. He did my Roux-en-Y on 05/15/07 and he also did my gallbladder surgery on 10/31/07. When I went in for my gallbladder pre-op the Ansetheologist told me that Dr. Bour was the best laproscopic surgeon in the upstate so if that helps you any... LOL! I invested in a food scale but have never used it! You will be measuring your portions by size (volume), not weight. The most handy tool you might want to get are some of the 2oz condement cups like they have in restaurants. I believe they may even sell them in the store at Dr. B's. I also had some 1 oz cups too that I used in the very beginning. They have a great blender in the store that I still use a lot. I would pick up one of the blender bottles (that has the little ball in it) from their store instead of using the Optifast shaker bottle. I had one explode on me (the Optifast shaker bottle full of chocolate Optifast!) at work!! LOL! I still use the blender bottle for my potein shakes. It is perfectly normal to be nervous. I bet there is not a single person on this board that didn't feel the same way. You are making a big change in your life, not knowing what to expect but you know what? I am 8 months post surgery and I haven't regretted my decision a single day! I have lost 132 pounds and I feel like a kid again! I just turned 49 on my birthday 12/31 so I know where you are coming from!
Hugs,
Karen
