Hi ya'll!! I am Amelia and I live in Greenville County. I am still new to the area and I had Gastric bypass surgery back in Nov 2007. My surgeon is in Atlanta so I have a hard time getting to the support groups meetings. Does anyone know if I can attend meetings in Greenville? It would mean the world to me to get to meet some locals with the same situation. Thanks!

Call Dr. Eric Bour's office at 864-676-1072.  He's on Woodruff Rd., near the intersection with Hwy 14.  Surely, he can work out something.  His patients pay an up-front fee of $2,000 which gets us access to the support groups, dieticians, and a psychologist, for life.  You;re too soon out of surgery not to have the information (and support) he provides.

Dr. Bour's office will not allow patients that are not his to attend his support group meetings. He won't even see them as patients.

I paid 2500 dollars for that to my surgeon in Atlanta...

I think you need to call Dr. Bours office. My mom had another surgeon perform her surgery (out of state) and she attends the support  meetings and is welcomed.  Although she is not one of his patients.  In my opinion...Dr. Bour wants you to be successfull no matter who performed the surgery.  I will admit his patients are first...but he is good Doctor.  It is not like you are having problems- you are just new to the area.  At least call! you never know.  The office managers name is Sytrena and she is GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Nice to mee you! Thanks Angela!!! I really appreciate that. A person can't control sometimes where they have to move so I thought maybe I could attend meetings! Maybe I could go with you?

Sure! I go pretty much every week unless something comes up.  I know that most likely Dr. Bour would not take you as patient. Most doctors so not want to take other Dr. Patients.  It could also be that since I am a patient of Dr. Bours...he allows my mom to come to support me as well.  It's not like the room is too full.  I could see if his own Post op patients filled up the room.  Unfortunatly alot of post-op patients get too busy or do not make it priority to attend. My goal is always go at least once a month-the further I get out.    I have only missed 2 or 3 since surgery. DO you know where his office is located?

Well, that's funny.  I got a completely different answer closer to when I had surgery in '06.

Hi, Amelia, and welcome to Greenville!  Dr. Bour's office will do what they can to help you, I'm sure.  They are very nice.  Sometimes, one physician will officially "transfer" a patient to another's care if insurance, etc. can be worked out.  Have you thought about asking your old surgeon if he can transfer you to a Greenville area surgeon?  There are other area physicians (Anderson and Seneca) who are also good, but Dr. Bour is (in my biased opinion) the best... Best wishes, Cathy
