Pain Question...
Last night I was woke up with this sharp pain under my left breast at the top of my rib. I had only been asleep for about 2 hours and by 2am I couldn't lay in the bed any more. It hurts real bad, then eases up and then hurts real real bad again. It isn't where Kidney stones would hurt (been there), it is at the top rib on the left.
Does that sound like gallbladder issues?
Deb
PS It figures that the great problem free ride I have had since WLS would eventually come to an end....
Deb, Call the doctor! The gallbaldder is different for different people, mine say lower, just under the ribs in the back. But when I had the scar tissue forming, the pain was up front right in the top part of my abdomen. It felt like someone was putting hot knives through my abdomen. And I know how you feel about problem free ride coming to an end, that is what ended mine.
Good luck and sorry you are in pain, but CALL THE DOCTOR!

Weird I went to the Dr about the same problem this morning. He told me it was gas pains...WTF ever if I have to fart I let it out,,,Sorry! It's not gas pains. It hurt me so bad last night I was about ready to go to the ER. My back isn't hurting at all just up into my rib cage and it's very painful. When I looked up Gall Bladder symptoms it didn't look like that was it. But are there different symptoms for different people? I can't take this pain much longer I slept in a fetal position last night thinking that was going to ease the pain.
I can't have surgery right now my husband isn't home and I have no one to keep my kids, I have to deal with this for another month but if it gets any worse I don't know what I will do.
I called Dr B's office and was transfered to a recording, so I went down there. I spent from 10am to 4:30pm there.
Just as when you take a car to the shop, after several hours of being there, the pain went away. They told me gallbladder is on the right and quite painful. They couldn't mash on anything and make it hurt until it was ready to hurt. I had no fever, yet I had chills so bad I had to carry a warm blanket with me everywhere along with my coat. My former bloodwork was great. My pee was great. Wonderful, so why am I here all day?
So, they sent me down for lots more bloodwork and to have a ct scan. They gave me the stuff mixed in cold sprite. It was so sweet in the sprite that I nearly lost it. I had to remind them I could have no sugar, so they got apple juice to put it in. From 12:15 to 3:15 I sat for the contrast to do its thing. Then they took my blood and started and IV. At the ct scann, they put this stuff in my IV that was extremely warm. I felt it go through my fingers and through my body to my privates. My girlie stuff was HOT. I didn't like that stuff, but it went fast.
Now I go back in the morning to see if I have kidney problems, a hernia or what. I got a shot in my back Monday and spent Monday and Tuesday in back pain. Maybe it was some sort of reaction to that.
I knew I should have just sucked it up and delt with the pain.
Thamks yall.
Deb
no you should not have sucked it up. You did the right thing! If it is scar tissue like I had, one was starting to form a bowel obstruction. And that is alot more dangerous than the other stuff.
Doesn't that CT scan feel funky? I felt like I was peeing my pants.
I hope it is nothing, but you did the right thing! My pain only lasted during the night and the only reason I mentioned it to Dr. B was that the last time it happened was the night before my 1 year appt. Man did I get lucky.

Unfortunately, I've had a little of everything - gallbladder - long before WLS, but I've had pain from 2 hernias and an ulcer since my surgery. With the ulcer I told the Dr. I'd would'v e sworn my gallbladder was back - that's the kind of pain I had - it didn't go to my back ..just up under my rib. It sucks, so don't put yourself through the pain hoping it will just "go away" - let the Dr. give you something. If only he could prescribe jello shots
