Hello,        I was wondering if anyone here tried Optifast before their surgery and if so what were your experiences? Thanks, Karen

My surgeon required us to go on optifast for around 4 weeks prior to the surgery. I didn't have any problem with it and actually liked  some of it. I prefered the strawberry shake over all the other stuff and I wasn't too crazy about the soups. I lost 14 pounds while drinking it for the 4 weeks, some people lose more, some less, since everyone is different ,and others might have a different opinion of it than I do. My Dr Also required Optifast for 4 weeks prior to Surgery. ( Dr. Bour was my Dr.) I really like it....mostly chocolate (which I made as hot chocolate) and The vanilla I would add all kinds of different flavoring so that I would not get bored drinking "vanilla".  I added....bananna, coconut, pineapple, and more vanilla..You can also add some fruit to the shake. I really liked them and I had no problem drinking them...I also liked the chicken soup...but that was all. I used Vanilla, Chocolate and Chicken soup.  Good luck! I lost about 20 lbs during the month.   Angela

Thank you for your responses.  I am considering trying it so I can get below 400 lbs.  I currently need to lose 24 lbs to achieve this, I don't know when I will have my surgery because UHC won't answer any questions until after Jan. 1st when my policy is fully active.

I am also a patient of Dr. Bour's and I was on the Optifast for 4 week prior to my surgery along with 1 small meal a day. I lost 23.8 pounds. I really liked the chocolate and vanilla the best. I kind of missed it after surgery LOL! I tried the soups and was not crazy about them. I used the Unjury Chicken soup for my "salty" fix. I got tired of everything being sweet. I hope this helps.
Hugs,
Karen
