Misinformation about PCOS
Ok I'm a little mad at Dr. B right now and I plan to talk to him about it when I go for my next visit...
I was told that GB would CURE PCOS. Well, I'm here to tell you that it does not. Kathy, I know you told me, but I didn't believe it until I saw it with my own 2 eyes!!!
I have been on the pill since after surgery. I went off of it last month to see what my body would do. I started feeling terrible, gaining weight, and having all the symptoms of PCOS. No ovulation, intense cravings, sore boobs, cramping, mood swings. Needless to say, I'm back on the pill and metformin. I'm feeling better accept for the slight break through bleeding (I hope it will go away when my body adjust to the pill).
Dr. B told me as well as my Reproductive Endo (at the time) that PCOS would be cured by GB. He also told me that 9 out of 10 patients saw symptoms disappear after surgery. Well, I must be the one in 10 that didn't. I'm so discouraged. I will forever have to struggle with this not to mention kids probably will never happen. UGH....
Ok...I just had to have a rant session....

The only thing that can take care of your PCOS symptoms is to lay off the carbs period.
If you are following the rules (which we all know I am NOT) your carb intake would be severely limited which in turn would take care of the PCOS symptoms. You will never be cured.
As far as fertility, my OB/GYN (who is a fertility specialist) says that I would have only needed to lose 10% of my excess weight to increase my fertility chances greatly. Now I can't tell you if I am fertile or not, I have not been able to stand being off of some sort of hormonal birth control for long enough to even TRY to conceive. My symptoms are THAT bad.
When you say to lay off the carbs do you mean including good carbs like fruits and veggies? Or just laying off the bad carbs like cakes, pies, sugar?
I'm with you Kathy on that I can stand to be off the pill long enough to see if I am fertile. I feel terrible!! Then I start back on the pill and have a major breakthrough bleeding issue!!!! UGH!!!
Do you start gaining weight when you go off some kind of hormonal treatment? This is so confusing.

ALL carbs.
Definitely all bad carbs and severly limited intake of fruit and high carb veggies.
I can't seem to do it. That is why I am having sooo many problems.
I didn't start gaining weight when I got off hormonal treatment. My severe acne, heavy painful periods, mood swings, hunger, etc all came back.
I starting gaining weight when I went back to my bad habits.
PCOS stands for Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome which very popular in the obese females in society. It cause infertility along with tons of other hormonal problems makes one carb sensitive - one withPCOS can pack on weight so easy since their hormones are working agains them....it is a vicious cycle. :(
