Life Insurance After WLS

JUST FYI Well I was researching today-and I am by no means an expert, but one of the things I was looking forward to was a reduced rate or preferred rate on new life insurance. I found ut after many quotes and calls, thru Select Quote, only Prudential Life Insurance offers a preferred rate to people who are at their "normal" weight for their height. Before I was paying $95/month for $500K in term life, now thru Prudential Life I can get $500K for $54/month.

The only catch is; you must be a year out of surgery and Prudential does not care. Other life ins. companies want you out 36 months. So, in January I can switch over and start saving $45/month or $540/year. More if I pay in one lump sum and not do it monthly.  So-if you are more than a year out, you might want to try and see if you can get a preferred rate through your insurance company. And for the record-I work as a Food Service Director, not an insurance salesman

The miracle isn't that I finished. The miracle is that I had the courage to start.....John Bingham aka The Penguin

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the info, would like to share some with you... except this is about HEALTH INSURANCE.

Did you know that Gastric Bypass Surgery is an automatic denial for coverage for individual insurance.  When I was looking into quitting my full time job, I knew I would have to continue my health insurance, so instead of wanting to pay the high COBRA payments, I started getting quotes for individual insurance.  I found only a few company's that would give me a quote and I had to be at least 1 year out and at a stable weight, most were 5 years and one was even 10 years.  The other few that I did get a quote on were more expensive, by almost $100 or more, than my COBRA payment.  There was one that was $10 less a month but it did not cover the plastic surgery my insurance covered, so it was like pay $10 less a month and not have the plastic surgery or pay $10 more a month and have it covered, which one do you think I picked.  Now I am looking at setting up a savings account just for my medical bills.  I know there are Health Savings Accounts out there, my bank has one, but I think you have to already be enrolled in a insurance plan.  Dont know going to look into that tomorrow.  So bottom line, I am stuck paying my COBRA payments and keeping the same insurance I had at my old job because no-one would give me prime rates because of the WLS.  Go figure, you go through this surgery to get healthy, you get healthy and no-one will cover you.  Now this is for INDIVIDUAL insurance, not GROUP.  That one is a whole other story.

But is all of this I did not think about Life insurance, I will have to check with Prudential.

Thanks Again,

Julie
