Are you happy with your lap band

I am someone considering the lap band vs the RNY.  I hear a lot of mixed reviews from bandsters.  I want to know truthfully how you feel about your band.  If it is great please tell me why and for how long you've had it.  If you hate it please say why and if you wish you had another procedure?  I appreciate any input anyone can provide.

Sorry I'm no help I had RNY in April, but just wanted to say welcome to the board. There are a few people on here that had lap band.

Look under the forum list at the top of the page. It has a lap-band forum too. I'm  still waiting on surgery myself. I have been checking out all the forums. I want to learn as much as I can before I have surgery. I have chosen RNY . I was afraid I would not loose enough having the lap-band. I need to lose at least half of what I weigh to not be considered over weight. So check out the lap-band forum. They may have the answers you are looking for. Teresa M.

hey! Welcome! There are a few folks on this board with the lapband... I think 3 or 4... they might be able to offer insight..  

I very rarely post...am mainly a lurker... but, here's my two cents worth! I had the lapband placed in March of 2005.  At the time I weighed 330 lbs.  I lost about 50 pounds in nine months... I worked for every pound.  I thought I had found the most wonderful tool in the world!  What I wasn't admitting to myself was the trouble that I was having.  Sometimes even just liquids would send me over the edge and I would PB (or just plain throw up!!)  I had considerable limits on what I could eat...very little fibrous foods like celery or pineapple, etc.  I had to have most items coated with some type of sauce so that it would slide down.  Unfortunately, bad foods like milkshakes, chocolate, etc went down with no problem.  I had only one fill the entire time I had my band.  I eventually had to end up with emergency surgery to remove my band in December of 2005. The lapband is the perfect solution for a great number of people.  I just happened to end of being one of the complications...If I had it to do over, I would have gone with a different tool.  I just feel that I had too much weight to lose to have been successful with the band.  That is just my opinion...that are hundreds that have been very successful.   Just FYI, I am currently in the process of having a revision to a Duodenal Switch.
