Saying Hi!

I have battled my weight since I was 15.  My husband is in the Navy and we just moved to this area in July. I just saw my new PCM on the Goose Creek base and I asked him about putting in a consult for possible bariatric surgery. I went very prepared with charts and diet history, turns out I needed all my information. He was nice about it, but at first did not think I had really thought about all the risks. I assured him this was a decision that had been in the works for years. He was happy that I came prepared and seemed informed. He even got me to help him write the consult request. It was approved by tricare for me to see Dr Morgan at MUSC. Of course now I have to jump through all the hoops they want you to do before you can even have a meeting with her. Right now I am scheduled for a seminar on Dec. 4th. I wi**** could be sooner, but they told me to call back closer to the dates of the other seminars and see if there have been any cancellations. They have one on the 16th of Oct. It would be great to make that one. I am very excited about this new chapter in my life even at this early stage. Anyone with any helpful info about tricare approval for RNY or Dr Morgan please let me know. I am glad that I will have such wonderful people on here to share my journey with.                                                        April

Thanks, as far as I can tell from the online handbook, I meet Tricare's requirements in that I am 100lbs over ideal weight and I have been diagnosed pre-diabetic, have GERD and hx of depression. Hopefully the paperwork will go smoothly.

Hi April,

I am so excited for you.  I had my surgery down at MUSC and had a very good experience.  I'm so glad you found this site, it has provided so much support, I'm found so many friends, and has pretty much been my lifeline a lot.   You need to try to come to one of the meeting  and meet some of the ladies, everyone is wonderful Mary

I am so happy for you.  I too live in Summerville.  If I can help, feel free to hollar at me.  Several people here have had Dr. Morgan, she is great.  I had a consult with her, I personally wanted Dr. Byrne though. I hope you get with a support group.  We have meetings on Thursdays at the Pizza Inn On Rivers Ave at 6pm and this Sat, Oct 13th we are having one at my home in Summerville at 12 noon.  Check the post about it on the board. I started going to the support group meetings about 3 months before my surgery, along with all the homework I did before hand, and they taught me everything.  This bunch is a great support system. I hope you can make it on Thursday and  this Sat. Deb

Sounds like you have done your homework and will do great.  The folks at MUSC are great and will guide you through the process...  Hope you can come to a LCBB meeting, we would love to meet you....
