Any tricks to taking pills?

Does anyone have any trade secrets to taking pills? These are ones I can't crush, take in liquid form, etc. I have about 8 I have to take in a days time and I just can't seem to get them all down even one at a time without one getting stuck & hurting like h_ _ _! Needless to say, I'm not getting them all in every day, but I DO TRY. These are my pre-op maintenance meds that I haven't been weened off of yet. Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions! {{Hugs}} Hellen

This was a trick I used for crushed pills, but it might help with the non crushable variety as well.  I put them in a dollop of whipped topping (sugar free) and swallowed them that way.  They slide right down and you don't have to take the water with them which always waterlogs me.  Maybe that will help.  Unless you don't like cool whip, at which point it prolly won't work.  It also works amazingly well for hiding the crushed pills from taste buds. Hi Hellen,   I used to get my vitamins stuck and gag on them. I had a customer tell me that if I put the pill and liquid in my mouth, turn my head sideways and swallow, that i wouldn't gag anymore and it worked! Good Luck on your journey. Carol 08/01/03 278/150

Hi hun,

Still having trouble with the pills huh?  I would call Dr.B's nurse and advise her what's going on.  She may suggest contacted the Dr. who prescribed the pills to see if there is anything smaller within the same dosage that he/she may be able to call in for you.  Or, you may be allowed to cut them in half (unless they are time released capsules).  I tried putting my calcium pill in some applesauce like they did in the hospital but it's the nastiest thing ever and I just couldn't tolerate it.  I really encourage you to call the nurse or "Diet Debbie" and let them know what's going on.  I know they've heard this problem before and can help you with lots of good suggestions.  Hope things get better soon hun.
