Hi! I had surgery Aug 16, and just want to see if everyone had a scedule like this or am I just carzy. My surgeon did not give me any books or anything. They just told me to keep it soft and add fish along with 4-5 more pills. Basically (7am) I wake up, take a vitamin and get 1/2 yogurt for breakfast. Sip for an hour take B12 vitamin. (9am) Snack on the leftover yogurt I didn't finish. (11am) Take calcium and sip. (Noon) Lunch on some cottage cheese and soft veg. (1pm) sip on water. (3pm) Take gallstone prevention med. 5pm Chicken and Rice soup. 7pm Take Calcium. Sip on protein shake. 9pm take last pill of the day. I try to change it up but not sure what I can have at this stage. I have tried to include eggs, chicken, sliced cheese, sweet potato, but they come back up. So, if you have any suggestions please let me know. Thanks alot.

First off, I am sorry you are having trouble with transistioning to the solid phase.  Do not give up on those foods you have tried.  Wait about a week before trying them again.  Some times it is just too early in the solid phase.  I was lucky I was able to tolerate just about everything. I will tell you even at almost 18 months out, I can not do a lot of carbs (sweet potatoes).  Chew, Chew, Chew, and then Chew again.  My first solid food that I could tolerate no matter what was ground beef!

It sounds like your schedule is about right.  Go get some more soaps and soften them and try that.  I woulod puree them when I was on the soft phase.

I hope this helps. Julie

Wow ... wish you had a little more guidance and support from your surgeon.  Do you have a nutritionist to ask for some advice? Those first several weeks are not easy though, and it sounds as if you're doing just fine.  It's gonna be boring and monotonous until you can add some more variety in down the road.  "Changing it up" is probably not in the cards for you just yet.  Be patient with yourself, because believe me ... this too shall pass.  You'll be fighting the urge to eat Skittles before you blink.

So for now, if it comes back up ... wait awhile before you try it again.  Chicken is usually a pain.  It has to be very moist.  I still have a problem with chicken breast ... I can handle thighs a lot better.  Eggs were difficult early on, too.  Now, they go down great if they are soft-scrambled or over-easy.  Just stick to what you can handle right now.  Creamed soups, that sort of thing.  One thing I did with cheese ... I couldn't do "cold" cheese at first, so I took a piece of string cheese (mozzerella) and put in on a plate, nuked it until it got melty, and then ate it with a fork.   Chew everything REALLY well, and listen to your new pouch ... it's the BOSS now.

It will get easier ... I promise.  Hang in there!

Sounds to me like you are doing well.  Take it slow, sip, sip, sip water and just eat what you can tolerate.  It will get better as time goes on.  You can also try grits, oatmeal, and soups. Good Luck!

Hi Ruth My friend, Becca, also lives in Sumter. She is having RNY on October 1, 2007 in Columbia.

Try some Wendy's chili.  It kept me alive when I was at your stage.
