Looking for a support group
Hi everyone
Just wondering if there was any supports group meetings in the Gaffney or Sparterburg area??
My surgery was 7/30/07 and my doctor was Dr Ross out of Spartenburg. They have a meeting once a month. But I was looking for something more offen. Just to meet people who are going throw the same things I am . It would help. Thank You
Florence
There are several Dr. Ross patients on this board, Florence ... and I know that they used to get together in Spartanburg every so often. Dianne S and Debra S will be able to tell you more about that (although Dianne S is cruising the ocean right now I think). Hopefully they will be in touch with you when they check the board. You are also very welcome to join us in Greenville when we get together. Times & locations are announced here on the SC board, so check in often. Just wanted to say congrats to you, and wish you well as you adjust to your new way of life!
Dawn thank you for the information & invitation to your Greenville meetings.
I was not sure if the meeting in Greenville were just for Dr Bour patients or if anyone could go.
Debra S. sent me a wonderful reply also. I will be meeting with the Spartanburg Support Group on Tuesday & then the after meeting group. I'm so glad I found the SC site.
I have not used the computter that much. So this is a learning process both learning to eat right and Posting
Thank you Florence

Good morning Florence,
My name is Debra Spencer, I'm so glad you came on here looking for a support group! It has been proven that those who go to regular support group meetings are the biggest success stories.
It's because our bodies and minds go through sooo much change now that we NEED that support and information from others that are going through the same thing.
We have the support group at the hospital that you know about the second Tuesday of each month, This is a very structured support group that is led by our two nurses Dianne Smith and Norma Gaffney.
THEN, there's another support group that my good friend Dianne Stone and myself (Debra) started outside of the hospital group.
We call our group "The Sassy SC Weight Loss Sister's"
We meet immediately after the hospital group at a nearby restaurant. This group is nuts! We have a great time and share a lot of information and laughs, things we are going through etc. We are slowly growing in size and welcome all new members.
Through this surgery we will all be sisters for life.
Our little group is not associated through the hospital whatsoever, we just all met there through the surgery, but needed something a little extra, those close crazy girlfriend friendships that we just couldn't form due to a lack of time during the hospital meetings.
Other than our monthly meetings, we also get together for Christmas parties, special birthday parties, other holiday get together's, and special events like the ObesityHelp event in Atlanta this weekend. Oh yeah, we also get together sometimes with that crazy group in Greenville that Dawn was telling you about, LOL.
Anwaysss, I hope to meet you soon.
You can call me anytime with questions or just to talk at (864)497-5259
and/or email me at [email protected]
Welcome to the loser's side my new friend!
What a journey you have in front of you!
God bless,
Debra
Debra thank you for your reply.
My first support meeting was last month and I do intend to go to this Tuesday meeting. I would love to join your Sassy Sister's Group after. Sound like something I need. I have so many stupid questions. And just to talk to others who are going throw the same things. I know most of the problems will pass with time, nausea, fatigue & depression. I guess I'm just feeling sorry for myself. This has been the right decision. I guess I'm just inpatient with myself.
I'm looking forward to meeting you and Dianne on Tuesday. Thank you. Florence
