I am wanting to put together a book with meal/snack ideas.  I know that there is one that can be viewed by other WLS patients, but I would like some new ideas.  Let me know if you have any suggestions.....Thanks, Monica

hey, I had planned to do the same thing, and I even got into my gastric bypass book about 1/3 of the way, and have not written more....yet. I have a ton of recipes and ideas on my profile, archived.  What I can't tell you is which month they are in.  So sorry, but there are all kinds of foods and recipes and eating out ideas from the newly bypassed patient to the old timer, like me I suppose.   I am now 2 years post op!! I had my surgery on Aug 24th, 2005.  I just cannot even look back and remember that time now!  I have been through a ton, and have posted a lot over the past year or 2.  I had to have surgery for a clogged bile duct because I don't have a gallbladder anymore, since 94, and have had 2 plastic surgeries and on Thursday I have my last. I need to update my profile, and I did the other day, but stupid me, it got deleted some how, so I have just not felt like writing more lately. Anyway, best wishes on accomplishing this.  My whole idea was that we all knew what to do right after surgery, we were all on pureed foods for the first 4 weeks from Dr Byrne at MUSC, anything we can puree, protein, we were allowed.   No pre op diets, no real post op diet, no all liquids except when we were in the hospital, but once we passed the grits test, runny grits, we were allowed to eat and go home (after the swollow test too).   Good Luck in this, and I really hope you can make it work.  I lost the stamina.  Lots of my ideas were also what to do, not just recipes, but things like,  Going to Taco Bell 2 weeks post op, and order the refried beans plain, some shredded cheese (that they put on the beans usually, but on the side) Then a little cup of just plain ground beef, and then I had some plain tepid water, and I mixed it all together to make a slurry, and mashed it up good.  It was really tasty after protein drinks and such for 2 weeks, and I finally had something I could eat out with. Mexican was always easy for me to eat out on, because meats and such were always grilled, or just broiled, refried beans always a good choice, so it was always easy to  eat Mexican even after the first 4 weeks. Then other ideas like Wendy's chili, and pour that over the salad, sans the tomatoes for me, the taco salad, with no sour cream, no salad dressing, it was too spicy.  I love Wendy's taco salad minus the bad things. You learn really quickly how to adapt and in all my post op 2 years, I have never had a hard time finding food when I eat out. There is always something, grilled fish in the early days/weeks is good, flakey, can ma**** well, and almost swallow it without chewing, no troubles.  Crab legs always worked for me too, just never did the melted butter much. I always, always have propel paks to go in my pocket book, because it is easier on my stomach, plain water always makes my tummy feel heavy and hurt. If you are ever in a bind, a non bypass friend taught me this GREAT trick!   Order plain water, iced water.   Ask for a LOT of sliced lemons.  Get all the seeds out, and then squeeze about 10 lemons or so, as many as they bring you, into the glass of water.  Then add about 4-6 pkgs  of Splenda to taste, and stir well.   It makes the best lemonade you have ever had!!  I do that lots of times, as in the early days, no caffiene, tea. I also usually keep on me a plastic cup that has a lid, like a dressing container, but make sure it is a tight lid, and put in a plastic baggie with Any Whey brand protein powder.  It mixes well with anything, and is pretty tasteless and mixes ver well too. Any Whey can be added to mashed potatoes, I would not add to the whole thing, but part of it, that I knew I could eat, so it would get used up, that I would eat all my protein. You can also mix it in sugar free puddings.  I have also gotten used to sitting while others eat.  I can always have a bite of salad, and steak or someone's baked potatoe for flavor. Keeping a pkg of Roadside Lemonade Nectar to mix with a Crystal Lite to go pkg, Raspberry Lemonade flavor, makes the roadside Nectar really good. Just some of my ideas :) Take care, Deb
