Hey Sharon,  I'm sorry you are feeling so bad!  Are you getting enough to eat?  I don't know much about low blood sugar but I know that I have to carry a protein bar or cheese stick or something everywhere I go.  Did you call your surgeon?  In your message it says you went to the doctor but did you go to Dr. Byrne?  Take care of yourself and if you need anything let me know...S

Yep.  I get low blood sugar attacks.  I can tell when they are coming on too.  I feel like I am in a panic.  I ate a protien bar so fast one time trying to keep the attack from coming on full force that it got stuck Iand I enedd up more miserable than before. You just have to make sure you eat every 3 hours.  It has to be something that consists mostly of protien.  I notice my attacks come on like CLOCKWORK if I have eaten something WITHOUT protien with it.  For example, if I eat a piece of fruit alone I will have a low blood sugar attack within a couple of hours.  If I eat it with a piece of cheese, I'm fine.  You also have to stay away from high carb meals wihtout protien like pasta or bread.  ALSO, any kind of candy will cause it.  I don't really dump on sugar anymore, which was a huge disadvantage for me, but those hypoglycemic attacks keep me in line now. The best thing to do would be to keep a protien bar in your bag at all times.  I usually do this, but since I have learned through experience what causes my attacks, I can pretty much predict them or avoid them. Hope this helps. Kathy

Hi, Sharona.  I have been having low blood sugar "spells" for over a year now.  (I had my surgery 8/18/04).  According to my surgeon, this happens to 5% of gastric patients.  He told me to eat 6 small meals a day to help prevent the spiking of sugar.  Watch your carbs and when you have a "spell", eat something w/more than 15g of carbs and some protein - ex:  pack of Lance pb on wheat crackers or an 8 oz container of nsa lf yogurt.  Mine tend to happen about 2 hours after breakfast if I eat cereal so I've had to stop having that for breakfast  and have yogurt instead - which I am NOT happy about!  LOL  Just make sure you always have a pack of the crackers w/you and eat them as soon as you start having symptoms.  I had one yesterday because I treated myself to a small popcorn at the movies and didn't have a protein w/it to counterbalance.  It's really irritating - but it won't go away so you just have to learn what sets you off, be prepared and do your best to avoid it.  My understanding is it won't get better but it might get worse.  Good luck!!!!!

Hugs,
Connie

Hi Shar....!    I have not had contact with you in an age!  I love seeing the pic of the three of us from my first night in town.  I am SO SORRY you are struggling with your low sugar issues.   My mom has hypoglycemia and always has small packets of peanut butter with her.   Her doctor told her to do this.   You may want to ask your nutritionist at your surgeons office?   Just a thought? Guess what?   I hope to see you real soon, Goose Creek is looking like a real possibility!   We shall see.....  YAY.   :)     Its nice to feel focused again.   If you ever want to speak PM me for my # if you do not have it, or I think Susann may have it on our official LCBB listing?    Jenn and Mary have it too! Miss you and think of you often, Sharona and always have appreciated you coming that first night! hugs, J.

Hey Sharon!  I am so sorry you are going through this.  You have got some great advice.  I know when I was taking my diabetic meds and would have a low sugar attack, I would eat something that had carbs, like a protein bar.  Keep one with you at all times.  I hope you feel better soon.  My life is about to free up a bit so we will have to go out some time soon!
