Ow!
Good morning, beautiful ones.
This old lady survived outpatient surgery on Tuesday, but man o man ... Ouch! I read Jen's post about feeling like she had done alot of situps, and now I'm wondering what's wrong with me??!! Because I am in pain. Obvioulsy not so bad that I can't sit here now and type ... but last night around 11 PM, it got pretty nasty. I'm telling myself it's just all the re-arranging of my intestines that had to be done, and now they are protesting ... but I'm really really sore. I'm going to try and walk more today to hopefully get rid of any remaining gas in my belly, and I'm going to ease up on the pain pills because I do NOT want to deal with slow motion bowels on top of everything else.
Like Jen, I have 3 neat little holes below my belly button, causing little to no discomfort. Unlike Jen (and Mary and Susann!) I don't have plastics scheduled, so I'm not worried about where the scars are. I'm SO happy for y'all! (Although now that I've met the freakin' $3000 deductible on my insurance for a 2nd year in a row, maybe I'll go and see a plastic surgeon to see what, if anyhing, I could have covered!) Thank you for all the sweet messages on my voice mail ... I've been such a baby about answering the phone. I'll do better today if anyone wants to try again to hear my whiny voice complain about my painful intestines. I've eaten mostly yogurt and soft-scrambled eggs for the last 6 weeks .... guess what I ate yesterday? Yogurt. Soft-scrambled eggs. I can't imagine putting anything else in there! At least I've got a good excuse to wander around the house in my pretty new gown and robe one more day.

I always SAY I'm going to milk it at times like this ... then I just get so frustrated at feeling like crap, I rush myself back to "normal" so life can go on. But yeah, today there will be milking. I forgot to tell you what happened at the hospital on Tuesday. I love how you can go into surgery and never see Dr. Bour. I'm assuming he was there at some point. LOL I did see Katie in the OR before I nodded off. Anyway, after I had changed into my gown, and was all settled into bed, the nurse came in to make sure my paperwork was all straight ... she says, "Name?" I answered. "Birthdate?" Blahblah. She's standing right by the bed, looks at me, then back at the charts ... and says "And you're here for a Roux en y."
I paused. And then realized it wasn't even a question. I looked over at Jim, and he just laughed. When I didn't answer her, she looked at me again, and I said, "I had gastric bypass a year ago." *smile* She stammered around and admitted she had only glanced at the paperwork, and saw Dr. Bour's name, then saw "Roux en y" on my past surgeries ... and assumed. We laughed, she left ... I looked at Jim again and said, "Do I LOOK like I'm here for gastric bypass?" I mean, seriously ... I've lost 160 pounds! Jim says, "Oh she's just busy, sees dozens of people every day, yada yada yada." Then the nurse comes in to start my IV ... looks at my chart, and ... wait for it ... SAYS THE SAME FREAKING THING!!! "You're here for your Roux en y??" I just shook my head. And thanked God for my sweet friends who tell me I look skinny now.
I can't wait to see you again too ... it's been far too many days.
I know what you mean about meeting deductible, which is why I'm putting off the re-do on my bladder surgery until next year. That way, if insurance will pay for anything on plastics, at least my deductible will be paid for (or almost). That, and since I'm salaried, I don't have short term disability...my salary continues when I've been out for surgeries (for up to 6 months). So surgery is always a good way for me to get some paid time off!!
Now...go eat your yogurt and eggs!!
Hugs,
Dianne
