Scariest 20 minutes of my Life -- OT
Yesterday my 5 year old rode the bus for the first time to the afterschool program at our church. This is only about 5 blocks away from the school and they drop off right in the parking lot.
When I called the afterschool to check......HE DID NOT GET OFF OF THE BUS. I called the school, and he was not on the bus. NO ONE KNEW WHERE MY BABY WAS.
The school actually wanted me to wait so that they could check all of the buses and see if he got on the wrong bus (we knew he didn't, the first grade teacher put him on the right bus), they wanted to wait until all buses were empty.
The director of the daycare and I and his teacher were freaking out, I finally yelled at the school do you want me to call the police, or will you do it for me. This is a five year old child who is lost and alone. Luckily Scott saw a child he recognized in a yard and the mother realized that he was supposed to go to Londonderry. She called the church and walked him to the afterschool program. He saw the bus pass the church so decided that he should get off and walk to the church. He didn't realize that the bus would turn around. I can't believe that the driver just let him get off, his bookbag tag was labelled. He is little.
I'm not over it and haven't decided yet what I want to say to the busing supervisor or the school.
By the way, there was an Amber alert in our area, a two year old was abducted yesterday.
My husband had already left work, I was still here so that I could be on two phones at once. We got our baby and went home and simply rejoiced in being all together.
Of course, when he was found I fell apart. I went in the bathroom and cried then came to my desk and ate two Oreos.
I hope everyone's first days of school were better.
Mary
Wow what an ordeal!!! I"m so glad that he was ok.
It reminds me of a time when my son rode the bus from school to daycare, I believe it was when he was in 1st grade. He fell asleep on the bus and didn't get off at the daycare center. The bus driver finished the route and he was still on there. She remembered where he was supposed to go and took him back there, but it was like an hour later. The daycare center didn't call me right away, until they were in touch with the bus driver, so by the time I knew about it, he was already there.
Heres a big hug for you!!!!!!
Hugs,
Dianne

Mary I am so sorry that happened to you. It is hard to have a little one. If that had happened to Willow I would have lost it. I'm so thankful all ended well, praise God. I don't think I will ever let Willow ride a bus till middle school and then just maybe but thats a good ways away being she just turned 4. I have to have 10 eyes on Willow she is so friendly and doesn,t meet a stranger it scares me. All we can do is pray that the lord will keep his hands on our little people.
Big Hugs

Oh Mary! I can feel your pain, heart attack, stroke..... all at once.
I am so glad everything turned out good. Thank the Lord!!!
My 2 are 10th and 8th grade... this is their first year in public school, they
are riding the bus in the afternoon home and I am sitting on pins and
needles til I hear from them... which is when they get on the bus, get off the
bus and enter the house.
BIg Hugs... (((((HUGS)))))
Pam
Thanks Pam, I still wait on pins and needles for my 11th grader to be home safe. I know exactly how you feel with yours. Luckily today went much better, he got off at the church. I didn't want to make too big a deal about him with him because I didn't want to scare him.
Looking forward to the beach!!! Mary
OMG Mary I would have freaked out! But you know what? I'm hoping to get a job soon and have found childcare that I am interested in but you just taught me what to talk about with my 7 yr old! It would never have crossed my mind that she may not get off the bus at daycare! I am so glad that he is okay and I hope your blood pressure is back at a normal level soon.
