My 9 month check-up.

Well, I went for my 9 month appointment with Dr. Bour today and I left feeling on top of the world for a change. I still didn't lose the 14 pounds he wanted me too, however I did lose 10. He says he isn't looking at the numbers on the scale but at my nice curve on his chart. He said it all looks great and so do I, lol. The next best thing was he moved my goal weight up from 130 to 145 pounds, he said he didn't think 130 would be good for me and I might look too thin, lol. Too thin? I can't even remember when I had to worry about  looking too thin. Then he asked me if I was considering plastics for my tummy, and I said yes I am, now here is the bestest part of all...... he said that even though he usually doesn't give approval for plastics until you are at least 1 year out, he is giving me consent to get started on having it done now. He thinks that having all that loose skin and belly fat removed will make all the difference in the world to me and get me closer to my goal weight. So yeah for me, I will be calling Monday to set up a consult with the plastic surgeon I have been wanting to use. Even though he suggest one PS, I have been asking a lot of questions in the OR about who to use and not to use, and the one he is suggesting is getting a lot of  negitive replies. So it's off to the other one for me and hope that the insurance will pay for me to have it done.  Super excited Mary

YEAH FOR MARY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  So happy the appointment went well for you.  I've been thinking about you alot and was praying for the best. Please pm me on who you are consulting with (if its ok)  I'm just starting to do the research and I would love to get the "inside scoop" to make sure I'm making the right decision on the Dr. I choose.  Not real sure about the one who works closely with Dr. B.  I've had some friends you had some trouble, which makes me a little skeptical. Anyway - going to NJ till Tuesday - boo hoo I'm gonna miss Chef Matt grilling and chillin on Monday. Congratulations again you're doing marvelous!!!

Great job! I would be excited too! I cant remember when someone told me I looked too thin too. His goal for me is 134 and I think it will be too thin for me too. I would love to know who you are looking at for PS also. He told me at my 1 month that I had about 40 pounds extra from my belly fat/skin and said I probably need to be looking at plastics next summer too.  I have my 3 month checkup next week and I have been busting my butt  trying to lose what he wants me to but I am still 12 pounds away. I have stepped up my exercize the past month and it is going slow. I have been losing a lot of inches though. Wish me luck.
Hugs,
Karen

Way to go Mary!!!!    I knew it would all work out okay.  You have been doing so wonderful....now maybe you'll believe us all!  My 9 month appt was Friday...of course, Katie fussed at me for not consistently exercising and also for stress eating (yes I told her I have been stress eating!) Munchybut Dr. B was way cool about everything and was pleased with my progress.  He also relaxed my goal weight...Yea!!...he originally wanted me at 143 which would be 27 more lbs.  I think he is looking more at 155-158 for me which is what I was hoping to do....I feel like these last 15 or so pounds will be the toughest though!  We'll have to get each other through all this!    And YEAH FOR YOU starting the road to plastics!  I so bad want a tummy tuck and boob job...I hope I can get the $ together for it.  I doubt insurance will pay for it for me.  Do you have any idea if our new health plan (United) covers plastics?  I guess we'll know more in September.  Anyway...sorry about the long post!  I wanted to give you a HIGH FIVE and tell you that I'm proud of you and also miss talking to you!  Hopefully I'll see you soon!Big Hug Mel

Thanks Mel. I miss you too and hope to see you at the meeting Monday. I'm still wanting to go to Atlanta so let me know if your still planning on going too, I need to get my ticket soon.  I still don't know if our insurance is going to pay for me to have the plastics or not, I'm hoping it will. As far as United goes, I have no clue, but knowing the kind of luck I have, they will have an exclusion for it. That's one reason I am going to go ahead and see what happens with BCBS. If it doesn't pay then I might wait until the begining of next year to do it, even though Dr. Bour says to go for it now. Maybe he would offer to pay for it ............... NOT, lol. I wonder why he is upping our goal weight? Thats strange that he told you the same thing. It sure doesn't hurt my feelings any that he suggested not losing as much, but I still would like to try to get closer to the original one of 130. Right now I will be happy to get to  145 like he wants. Talk to you soon! Mary Fireball

Good Job Mary!!! I still haven't gone for my 9 month appt!!  It was scheduled for the week of the 4th so I had to reschedule for this week on the 9th.  I have been a bit nervous but it sounds like he might be ok with me.  I am hovering around where he wanted me at 9 months but 10 months is a different story.  I think he will tell me about the belly fat and loose skin thing.  I have so much skin there and fat "pockets" that I have been told will not go away without liposuction.  My hubby's insurance won't pay for any plastics (they paid 100% of GB and approved me in 2 hours...What the heck???!!!)  However the state insurance which will not pay for GB surgery will pay for plastics....go figure.  SO I will be switching insurance at the beginning of the year.  It may be spring break or the beginning of summer before I can have a tummy tuck but I sure hope I can get one too.  Everyone says wait until after we have children but I am not sure "we" are gonna be having children.  I don't think bringing a kid into our situation right now is the smart thing to do.  Our marriage is rocky enough without the stress of a kid.    I know my biological clock is ticking...I'm 28 but I can't see having children when "we" are not ready for them.  I just hope I can have them before 35.  That is my cut off date.  Well, I just rambled on and on for nothing.  I hope all is well with you.  Congrats on the great report.

I hate to hear your still having problems with DH, but your right, you don't need to bring a baby into a marriage that isn't stable. I sure hope your 9 month appt. goes good for you, and I'm sure it will, you have done wonderful with your weight loss. It's too bad one of the PS won't give us a group discount if we all go in at the same time and have our TT and BL done, lol. Yeah, I know, dream on Mary! Are you going to Chef Matts cookout Monday? if so they said to bring a lawn chair, no mention of BYOB though, lol. Mary PS.... ramble all you want, I always do, lol!

thats awesome mary! im so proud of you.. i think you losing slower will be beneficial to you in the long run.. i think it will give you a better chance of keeping it all off rather than someone like me who lost fast. i think it could creep back up fast on me too. Thanks Jen! I didn't intend to scare you about Dr. Suber, and I don't know why Dr. Bour would recomend him if he sucks, but.......... I have not had one person in the entire perioperative area whi*****ludes pre-op, the OR, and PACU  say anything good about him. Unfortunetly, they can't really give me details as to why but so far they have all said the same thing, DO NOT USE HIM. one of  the nurses mother had GB and used him and had a lot of problems, infections, incisions opening up. I know that can happen with any doctor, so take it for what it's worth. He was my first choice and I had every intention of using him because he seemed really nice and I had one patient at St. downtown that he did a TT on and she loved him, but then, she had just had it done too. I asked him a lot of questions and he didn't hesitate to answer them, so I was impressed with his personality, unfortunetly it's not the personality that makes a good surgeon.I would make sure I see some of his work and even try to talk to people who have used him, before making a final decision, but that's just me. I wish I had more details for you, but I have tried hard to get someone to tell me the exact reasons everyone is so negative toward him. I am hoping to use either Upstate Plastic Surgery or Sutton Graham. I have heard they are both great. I'm hoping I can get the insurance to cover mine, but I'm not holding my breath. What did they do to get you approved? I wish you the best with it and can't wait to see how you are going to look afterward. Let me know where you are going to have the surgery done at.

Hugs! Mary
