About Liquids
I am looking at protein shakes and stuff but am unsure of what to buy. What flavors and which I will like best. I have read that our taste will change after surgery and am contemplating on whether I should buy any now or not. What would be the point of buying anything if our taste change and we can't stand what we bought after surgery? This is where I need the most help. Does the hospital/Doctors give you any samples to take home to get by on till you can go to the store? These are the questions that haunt me.
Hi there, :) There is no such thing as a silly question when researching this life altering surgery!! You are brave to ask any question! I was told that our taste would change too and mine have changed for some things and for some things they have not. I still love most of the things that got me into trouble to begin with, but have (through the tool of wls and many other things) learned to have them moderately. There are a ton of places that will let you try samples. So you could get some samples now, and you could also get to some support group meetings and ask folks if they could maybe bring you their favorite sample? Just a thought? One of the most expensive protein powders that I got the highest rave reviews on was Unjury.com it is often listed to the left on this website. I did like their powders pre and post surgery. They had a lot of good choices. I did find them to be on the pricey end though. My all time favorite pre and post is sold at good old Walmart!!! 'yay!' :) It is called Body by fortress. It only costs 11.99 I think for a big tub of it! they have two flavors that I know of... vanilla and chocolate. I am hooked on the chocolate and pretty much only make my shakes with this.... but with the vanilla you can add frozen fruit and make all kinds of flavors, i'm just a chocoholic.
If you want any further info, I would be happy to answer any questions. I am at work now, but I also have a link to a great recipe book that was put together... by a member on OH.. but you may already have that, as I have posted it on this site before many times... :) hugs Jill :)
