OMG ! too funny! Starting as a young PRE-teen. I would diet, I would say at around age 10. Which is really sad considereing I was probably underweight then. My obsession with being thin is what led me to being fat. 1. My mom was always on a diet. I would steal her "diet pills" and not eat. Dexatrim, some sort of chewy caramel appetite suppresant things, etc. 2. I changed portion sizes. I walked around with a measuring cup and would only eat what could fit in that cup. Three times a day. That was it. 3. Chopsticks. I only ate what I could pick up with chopsticks. It made me eat slower and made it more frustrasting.
4. I went on the popcorn and diet coke diet (my own creation) hehe. I would eat a bag of popcorn from the vending machine. Not the microwave kind, the lance chip size bags ...about 60 calories and a diet coke at lunch. that was it all day. 5. Grapefruit diet...nuff said 6. All liquid diet. If I couldn't drink it, I didn't have it. My diet consisted mostly of broth made with bullion cubes. 7. Slimfast 8.Less than 10 grams of fat a day diet. I wrote down everything. I could have no more than 10 grams of fat in a day period. 9. Exercising 4 hours a day and eating less than 1000 calories a day. 10. ACUPUNCTURE!!!! I had my ears stapled. Something I read in a magazine. I immediately went and had it done. Not the soft fleshy part of your ear. THE HARD CARTILAGE LOOP THAT LEADS TO THE INSIDE OF YOUR EAR!!! 11. Various other magazine related diets 12. WEIGH****CHERS times 1000 13. Phentermine, Meridia, Xenical, etc. More than once, different time in my life. 14. Atkins, Sugar Busters, South Beach, the insulin resistance diet, 14. LA weight loss x3 This has come to be more like a list of my eating disorders and then to a list of diets. I will say what my mom did and what my dad had to say about it had a lot to do with it. This is why we mus****ch what we do and say about ourselves in front of our daughters!!! 2.
Since I have been overweight since 1979, I don't even think I can remember all the things I've done to "be normal". I can tell you this: losing weight has been the main chapter is this life of mine. If it had not been an issue, there's no telling what I could have accomplished with all that extra time! In no particular order, because I can't remember an eternity ago: 1. I danced and exercised when I was 20. 2. Richard Simmon's Deal A Meal and his exercise videos, too. 3. Duke University Rice Diet 4. Grapefruit Diet 5. Weigh****chers ... many, many times 6. Herbalife 7. Jenny Craig
8. I breastfed too, Mary, and was thrilled when I read that so many women lost weight while doing so. I, however, did not.
9. Carbohydrate Addicts Diet
10. Sugar Busters Diet, more than once
11. Atkins Diet, many times
12. Dexatrim pills
13. Counting calories
14. Low-fat diet ... as much sugar as you wanted, just no fat. Uh huh. 15. Slim-fast ... over and over again 16. South Beach Diet 17. Lots of treadmill walking helped me to lose about 50 pounds once. Then I stopped.
18. The Master Cleanser Diet ... what demon from hell came up with THIS particular diet? 19. There must be a dozen other things I tried from celebrity books and magazine articles. I was a desperate woman for many many years. Like most ot us, the years of "dieting" is what made me fatter and fatter with each passing year. For the first time in my life, I feel in control. What a gift.
I can go the distance... I do not care how far... I know every mile will be worth my while.
My goal in life is to be as good of a person as my DOGS already think I am!
