OT: Having minor surgery. Need advice/opinion

I went to my GYN yesterday and discussed how horrible my periods have been over the last 2 years. It's just getting worse. He suggested that I have Endommetrial Ablation with Gynecare Thermachoice. (( A quick description - They insert a small balloon type device, fill it up with scalding ho****er and it burns away the part of the uterus lining that causes you to have a period. )) This will also make it impossible for me to ever get pregnant again .. which is FINE WITH ME! I'm done having kids!! I think I would really rather go this route rather then have a hysterectomy, because he told me with the scare tissue from my C-Sections.. it would have to be surgery instead of lap.  ANYWAY.. my question is.. has anyone had this procedure? Do you have a friend that's had it? Have you heard any pro's or cons on it ? The success rate is 98% .. which is a major attraction to me. I would appreciate any input... Stephanie

We have a lot of patients come through recovery that have had that done, apparently it is a  quite common procedure done as outpatient. I don't ever hear any of the women complain much of pain afterwards, maybe a little cramping like a period is all. Hope it all goes well. Hugs! Mary

I don't know anyone, but I read on the main board that one lady on there had it done.  She said it was the best decision she made.   I think I'd rather go that route than the hysterectomy too...although, yeah....ouchie.

I think I would go this route instead of a hysterectomy....  Either way....ouch!!!! And men think we ( women) have it easy......I would like to insert a balloon into their penis containing scalding ho****er....burn their innards.....and still tell them it was the best option Some how I don't think they would buy it!!!!!

Goood morning Stephanie,   The type of surgery you are talking about has become VERY POPULAR and is a great alternative to a hysterectomy. I so wanted to have this done, but because the tumors on and inside of my uterus were so large I had to have an open hysterectomy this past Jan. This was 10 time worse than Gastric Bypass!   So you are very lucky to be getting done this way and will LOVE IT!  NO MORE PAINFUL AND HEAVY PERIODS! I DO still gain 4-5 pounds every month when it's supposed to be "that time"  but loose it all over the next week.   Good luck my friend,   Debra

Stephanie,    I'm going to my GYN in a few weeks for this exact same reason, It suck getting older.  Every month my period is worse after I turned about 38.  Now I'm eager to see what she has to say.  I'll let you know but I think I'm sold after reading this post.  Have a fun weekend. Mary
