Ice Breaker - What does everyone do for a living?

Since I am fairly new to the board (as are some others), I figured I would throw out an ice breaker so we can get to know each other a little better. So....I will start this off. I am a PDS (3-D) Piping Designer at an Engineering firm in Greenville. I have been in the engineering business since 1988. I have been very lucky to have only been laid off 2 times! I love my job and am looking forward to being able to do some more work in the field as soon as I get a little more weight off (it was killing me walking up and down all those stairs and being on my feet all day). Anyone else game?

Hugs,
Karen

Hey... I have just changed jobs going on 3 weeks ago. I work at Menuworks, Inc. off of Rutherford Rd. I would have never stepped out and quit my job of 12 years 9 months and 145 lbs. ago. I love my new job and I am so glad I had RNY... it has changed my life in so many ways. Pam

Well I have been in retail management for almost 15 years until I lost my job with Target in November.  Since then I have been keeping children in my home.  I enjoy the kids but I really miss having time away from home at work.  I'd like to work again, even part time in the mornings.  Maybe when school starts back I will.  Anyone hiring?

Hi Karen....I am a social worker for Open Arms Hospice (formerly St Francis Hospice) here in Greenville.  I have been an LMSW (licensed master's level social worker) for over 10 years...the last 5 being with hospice.  Prior to that I worked in a high management group home for children, a family counseling center and with a specialized adoption agency focusing on adoption preservation and attachment therapy.  It seems I have run the gamut of social work positions!  I do enjoy my job (most days!)...it's an exciting and hectic time in our agency...we just finished building a new Hospice House in Simpsonville and just moved all our offices there...it's in total disarray but it's fun being in a new building...it is beautiful!  Thanks for the ice-breaker...it's good to meet you and to learn about you and everyone else here on the boards!! Hi, Melanie!  I just wanted to tell you that I have 2 daughters, both in Social Work. My oldest finished the 4 year program at Converse College in 3 years (on full scholarship!!) and then did her masters at Columbia University in NYC.  Right now she is a Social Worker for the Jewish Children's Center in the Bronx and loves it - although she sees some very disturbing cases!! My "baby" just graduated USC in May and will be attending there for the next 2 years for her masters.  She wants to have something to do w/adoptions.  Any tips for her? Have a great day - and thanks for being a caring person!!  I know these jobs are TOUGH!!!

Hugs,
Connie

Hi Karen  First off, Welcome to the board. Second, I will play.  Take your pick.  I am the Chemistry Lab Manager for The Citadel in Charleston.  I have been for almost 3 years.  Before that I was the assistant Lab Manager at the College of Charletson.  Before that I was an Analytical Chemist for a couple of labs in the area.  I quit one and got laid off the other when it was sold.  2 years ago July 1st, I started my own pet sitting company here in Charleston and now I am expanding into Dog grooming.  I am the Dog Lady, as Rachel calls me! I am hoping to quit The Citadel in the next few months and be so busy with pet sitting and grooming that I do not EVER have to work for someone else again. Well that is my story.  It is going to be interesting to see the other responses. Julie

I can go the distance... I do not care how far... I know every mile will be worth my while.

My goal in life is to be as good of a person as my DOGS already think I am!

HI Karen! I am a nurse.  I have worked as an RN for over 12 years.  Right now I work with St. Francis homecare.  I have also worked in the ER  (my love), Pediatrician's office, Pediatric ICU,  and general med/surg.   I love being a nurse.  I love the flexiblity that I have with homecare, but I wonder if one day I won't go back to the ER. My main job is to keep Stephanie happy and be the punching bag for Kathy and get slapped around every now and then when Melissa feels like it and to just mainly be the board resident for those who are having a bad day and wish to take it out on someone...and for some reason---because I certainly DO NOT bring this on myself---they pick on me, Hot Stud Muffin. HUH!! Go figure. I'm as lost as you are on WHY??? It doesn;t pay to be sweet and caring like I am, but I perservere, I survive another day to push forward for the miniscule chance I might help someone someday somehow,  I'm used to be kicked like trash on a curb, so no one should feel bad (yes--I'm talking to YOU-YOU know who you are little boxcutter you) ---hey I'm glad, GLAD I tell you, that I can offer myself up to be the sacrificial lamb to those of you kathy who wish to take out their bad days stephanie on someone as innocent as me melissa Besides that-I wear a hairnet and work in food service
