Feeling tired/exhausted all the time

I am about 3 1/2 weeks out and I seem to stay tired all the time. Is this normal? I am making sure I take my vitamins and get all my protein in every day (I am adding a little extra protein to make up for what I am not getting in the meals) but I AM struggling to get 5 (never the 6) meals a day. I am struggling to get the minimum fluids in. I am also itching a lot in my tummy area. Also, my weight loss is slowing down to a crawl. I am 9 pounds short of Dr. Bour's goal for the 15th of this month. I am getting really frustrated. Aly help will be greatly appreciated. Karen

Well I can't say if it's "normal" but I'm having the same problem.  I have a 13 months old and when she goes down for a nap I usually end up taking a 30 minute nap along with her.  My nurse said the naps were ok, "it was fine if I napped through out the day." But it was my understanding that with this surgery would come a burst of energy.  And I'm still waiting on it.  I'm doing the vitamins and so much protein so possible but I too do not do the 6 meals a day.  I'm lucky if I get in 3 with one snack.  Plus I'm running out of food options.  I can't tolerate the protein shakes so I try to add protein to high protein foods.  I know thats still not enough but I'm working on it.  Oh and the itching that's normal all the paitents in our support group complain of it.  So pass on any good advice you get.   Hangin' in there, Jamie

Karen,     I promise you that it will get better.  I know you probably get tired of people telling you that.   Just concentrate on your liquids.  It took me about six weeks to not feel so tired.  I would just be wiped out.  I blamed a lot of my tiredness just on having a major surgery.   I think that itching is okay, I itched a lot as I was healing.   Good Luck and I'm thinking about you. Hey Karen,  My husband Joel had his surgery on May 9 and he is having the same problem!!  Just remember that you have had major surgery and like everyone says just get your protein and liquids in and you will get that energy!!  Hang in there!!   Take care,  Deidre

Hey Deidre, It was good to see Joel last night.  He looks good. I have been keeping up with his struggles and I'm glad he is doing better. I was the one sitting beside Patti.  See you later.

You are normal in my eyes.  It sounds like me 8 months ago...  Hang in there.  You are still healing from a major surgery and your body doesn't know what the heck is going on.  Give it sometime to heal (takes a good 2 months, in my opinion) and be patient (I wasn't and about drove myself nuts)  IT gets so much better when you get used to eating normal foods again.  Rachel
