Which would you choose?
Well, all my research tells me that my chances of regrowing my hair after surgery are slim-to-none. have VERY thin hair now due to PCOS and all the PCOSers I've "talked" to say there's no luck in growing hair back and the hair they've lost due to surgery stayed gone as well. So, here's the big question: Which is the lesser of the two evils? Fat and ALMOST bald or thin and totally bald?

Hey! I have PCOS as well but I had a thick head of hair before surgery and PCOS did not affect my hair. I did lose a lot of hair during 3-6 months post op but it grew back. Because, I had such thick hair, it did appear that I was losing any.
Losing weight is by far the best choice. Hey weight loss has been shown to cure the symptoms of PCOS in 90% of patients. If you lose the weight you will feel better and maybe even get rid of the PCOS. I hope this makes sense!!!
Get your protein...I didn't in the beginning and I think that is why mine fell out. Some people lose no hair.
I wish you the best in your decision.

Billie, there are so many dangers to be overweight. It puts stress on your joints, it can raise your blood pressure.. if it is not high now, it can get high later in life... same with cholest. and the list goes on and on.
As Susann, Becky & Rachel mentioned if you are getting in high levels of protein you may not lose that much hair.
There are some really fashionable wigs out there now, if that is any consellation?
I know these are not easy questions and/or answers. I know just going through weight loss surgery without this is difficult.
Keep coming here for support and get to some meetings too, if you can.

I have PCOS too and lost ALOT of hair, but it IS growing back. If you ever meet me in person, I can even show you. I have all this spiky stuff sticking up all over the front of my head!!
Its a pain, but I know it will all be just as thick as it was before.
Now that I have picked myself off the floor... I would have never know you lost lots of hair by looking at you now. You can not tell one bit!

You have to understand, I had TONS of hair. VERY VERY THICK ETHNIC hair. I have burned out more than one Stylists $300 + blowdryers. I have lost about 50% of my volume believe it or not. I even had a couple of bald patches at my hairline. So I was lucky that I had so much hair or else I would have definitely been shiny bald.
I don't want to scare anyone, but it happens. If I would have lost too much, I definitely would have bought wigs. I LOVE the thought of wigs. As a matter of fact, I might get one anyway!!!
Hi Billie To answer your question, I would lose the hair and get a wig! Plus you could play with different colors and styles! But that is my personal opinion.
I almost fell out of my chair when I read Kathy's post. I would have never know she lost hair.

Billie....hello my lil support group sista!! I, too, had a problem with the prospect of losing my hair, I feel it is my best attribute. BUT, I would much rather take the risk and lose the weight. You've come this far, see it to the end! And we will all be here to tell you how fabulous you look and cheer you on!
