Hey everybody, Sorry I haven't been on in a while.  Today was 2 weeks since surgery and I am still depressed, tired, feeling regrets.  I cry at commercials.  I feel like I'm in an emotional whirlwind.  I spend most of my time alone.  I really don't want to be around other people.  How come I finally got what I have been praying for and feel so awful? I lost 21 pounds the first week and only 3 pounds this week.  I don't know what I am doing wrong, It's hard for me to eat more than a couple of bites.  I keep feeling like food gets stuck in my esophogas no matter how well I chew.  Water, pudding and protien drinks go down fine but not food.  What should I do? To top this off I have been on prozac for over 7 years.  I was told to open the capsuls.  Who else has had to do this?  Prozac powder is the most bitter nasty tasting medicine I have EVER tasted.  I have tried putting it in pudding, mixing it with water, even putting it on a goody powder wrapper and put it in the back of my mouth like I used to with the goodys.  Nothing works I can't take this I gag and throw up and can't drink fast enough to get rid of the taste.  I need any suggestions and appreiciate it very much!!!! sorry sweetie you're having it so rough... I've been there, myself... you need to call Dr. Ross about the food issues... you could be getting a sticture... as for the prozac... ask the doctor if they make in liquid form, if not then ask if they can change you to something that is a liquid till you're able to take the capsule.... 24 pounds in 2 weeks is great hon... I had only lost 16 in my first 2 weeks so you're doing just fine...  please don't be taking goodys... they can cause you alot of harm... I was addicted to goodys before surgery and it took a couple months before surgery to get me to lay them down... it's been over a year without them and that was the best thing I ever done when I stopped taken them things... but hang in there and be strong this will all pass...  keep me posted on how things are going but please call Dr. about not being able to get the food down right... Renee I am sorry you feel to rotten, but rest assure we have been there and done that.  With the weight loss, do not stress of it.  We all are different and lose the weight at different rates.  Some of us stall early, it is just the body's way of playing catch up.  It is great that you lost 3 lbs this week.  Remember before how difficult it was to lost those 3 lbs in a week before the surgery. Am I ready your post right, you are already trying solid food?  I know some people who have tried solid food and chewed it really well until it was mush during the puree phase and did fine with it, some had the same problems you have.  I would stick to your puree and protein drinks until you are a little further out. I wish I could give you advice on the meds.  I had the same problem with the calcium pills until they told me I could just cut it up in to smaller pieces.  Call your Dr.  You may be far enough out to take it whole now.  We had a guideline that as long as it was not bigger than a M&M we could swollow it whole after a few weeks. Remember you put your body through a major surgery.  It takes time to heal.  You are doing great. Julie

I can go the distance... I do not care how far... I know every mile will be worth my while.

My goal in life is to be as good of a person as my DOGS already think I am!

Ask the doctor if you can take the prozac in the capsule form.  I was able to take it the day after my surgery and had no problems. Also, if you have alrady been on it for 7 years, you may need your dosage increased.  that is what happened to me.  I had been on it FOREVER and after surgey, I had to have the dosage increased for a while to combat the mood swings. Hi, I felt the same way after surgery.  I am just 6 weeks and am still debting if it was the right choose.  It does get better.  I have trouble with the protein shakes and still can't get them all in.  I have tried a lot of them.  I am allergic to red dye so the rules out a lot of the protein drinks.  Just make sure you get your water in.  I couldn't image taking a powder form, that does sound gross.  I have been taking my pills since I came home from the hosp.  I have noticed that one of  pills that I take doesn't absorb the way it should. (I will leave out the gross parts, LOL).  I have to call my Dr today and see what to do.  It is the hardest thing I have ever done but I did it to get healthy and be able to do things with my kids.  God Luck and God Bless.

Yes, please call your MD. THere are so many antidepressants on the market, there should be one if you can no longer tolerate the Prozac. Hang in there we have all been there with the fool intolerances and the trouble getting in proteins. It gets better over time, but still know that is hard to hear when you are in the thick of it.
