Poogan's Porch - a brief write up from their web site.

Woof, woof. A scruffy neighborhood dog, Poogan spent his time wandering from porch to porch alternately lounging around and begging for table scraps. Poogan was a good ol’, down-home, Southern porch dog. In 1976, he became the guardian of the newly opened restaurant and presided over the renovation process. When the doors opened for business he greeted the first customers. The restaurant’s family cherished him and in his honor, the owners named the restaurant after him and his favorite resting spot—Poogan’s Porch. He died of natural causes in 1979 and the building is his monument. http://www.poogansporch.com/index.html The above wording is not my own.... if you go to the website you will see a picture of "Poogan" and below it the words above!   :)    That is what stole my heart and why I really want to go to this place!!!   I also really want to go there with Julie because..... well... its obvious, right?     I am a DOG LOVER!!   My dogs are under my profile and they both have left this earth over the past two years.    I was blessed though, in that they lived till over 16 years.   Its never long enough, though is it????      Anyway.   I can not wait to come to SC!!!   I hope I can meet as many folks as possible, and those I dont meet this time, I will meet another time because I will be back. hugs, J.

Hi Tanya!     I am soooo excited about everything!   About my trip, about meeting everyone, about Poogan's, about all the plans that everyone is involved in, and about my whole future that seems to be falling into place.     I am sad that you cant make any of the "outings" but if you change your mind there are different things each day and I know that a few of the things are open to the whole family, so you could bring your husband and children to the pool party and/or to the Pizza Inn.     It sure would be nice,  but I know its not easy for you to get out.     I always enjoyed speaking to you on the phone, and your sweet voice.   You are a very kind girl.  Hugs, J.

  • The Travel Channel voted the restaurant “Third Haunted Place in America” in 2003.  Its a good thing we are going here for lunch!!      I wonder if it is "haunted" by Poogan, or by others.. eeeeeeeeeeeeek. xo

It is one of my favorite places to eat in Charleston. However, Poogan is not only the only one that is ummm said to haunt the place...it has a rich history. Take the ghost tour and you will learn even more of it and others homes rich history

Maybe when I find a nice strong man to protect me...... lol.    I am a little bit afraid of haunted places though!  You might say I am a bit of a wimp.       But I like to read about those places!!     Oh my.... I am so excited to get there I can hardly stand it! xo
