Your surgery update
Date: 12/27/06
Lap RNY converted to open while in surgery
72 pounds lost so far
What has helped me the most is getting in my protein and water and the thought of Kathy cutting someone(jk)
I guess I could help someone else the way my new special friends have helped me.. just to be there and listen when needed. Thanx Y'all!
The best thing so far is being able to play with my kids...and my husband
Same as yours Feb 7th, 2007

Be as supportive of my everyone has been to me and share my story with others.
I can be comfortable and also I look great....But most of all I feel better and I am not sick anymore. And again meeting all my new friends.
Thanks DEB. That was fun.. I will call you soon. Gotta go to work right now..Love Jennifer

type: RNY gastric bypass
weight loss: 65 pounds and counting
helped: Whole foods have worked best for me. I tend to eat based on smell, and some of the protein things didn't do much for my nose or taste buds. The lcbb support group, the message board, the Vitiman Shoppe, all of the upstate gals (and Chris) my family, Susan, Dr. Byrne and MUSC and most of all, the Good LORD.
to help: I think posting on your individual profile (for those that lurk), what it took to get you approved, your high and low points after surgery, answering back to newbies when they have a question, and going to support group meetings. I believe when GOD gives you the opportunity to have this surgery, he also gives you the opportunity to help someone else.
Best thing: Oh my, there have been so many...................................
Being able to cross my leggs, being able to walk, talk and breathe all at the same time, Doing the Cooper River Bridge run/walk, hearing my family doctor rave on about how good I look, shrinking out of all of my clothes, fitting into smaller clothes, being able to wear heals again, being able to go grocery shopping without wineing about it, buying a smaller bathing sui****ching my boys reaction when they see someone flurting with me, watching Trent's reaction when HE see's someone flurting with me, being able to help other's with my clothes I am not able to wear, the change in my self confidence, wearing short skirts and knowing I look good in them, some of the pain in my back easing up, being able to be more physical, being able to work in my yard, my love life being refreshed, the change I see in my face everyday. And most of all, the wonderful lifelong friends I have made because of this journey.
PS: I have also learned the true use of a boxcutter...thx Kathy.

I come from a long line of thugs. I am proud of my thug heritage.
At Chief's the DJ wouldn't play the music I requested because he said the manager was trying to keep the thugs out!!! LOL!
Date: December 20, 2006
type: RNY gastric bypass
weight loss: 5 months out, 118 lbs lost, 25 more pounds to go
helped: Just doing the right thing. Eating what I'm suppose to eat, exercising right, even just 5 minutes if nothing else. Keeping the junk food OUT of the house. Finding substitutes for cravings I have. Like now--I love watermellon as a sweet snack instead of the usual junk I used to eat. This board and all its members-I have found new inspirations on this board everyday. Thank you for all of those who have been so nice and welcoming. I hope I have not stepped on anybodies toes with my sometimes unusual sense of humor. My goal is just to keep the mood light and fun.
to help: just being supportive without being judgemental, understanding that surgery is a decision a person has to make on their own in the end, and that whatever their choice---to respect that. Also-being complimentary whenever possible because its the small battles that are sometimes the hardest
Best thing: I sleep better, I don't have sleep apnea anymore, my snoring is less, no more acid reflux, I'm more active with my family, I don't shy away from public affairs (that much) then I used to thinking I would be the fattest one there, not having to worry about where I sit in a restaurant and if I could fit in the chair with the arms on it, feeling energetic, feeling more helpful, the people I have met on this board, knowing I can make a change in the things I do---something I did not feel possible before surgery....and the thought that I will now be around longer for my daughters if I do what I am suppose to do and keep the weight off.
Thankyou Debbie for such a great post.
1. September 30, 2005
2. RNY
3. 128 pounds, 6 pounds from my goal, met Dr Byrnes goal after nine months,
4. Support from my WLS friends, people that have lots of the same issues that I have, new friends that I've made that will be forever from LCBB and UPS
5. Make them laugh about the horror stories, That's the only way I got through it. Be incredibly honest, its not easy, its not a quick fix, after 18 months its downright hard, but its also incredibly worth it
6. The increase of confidence that I have that has allowed me to literally change my life
