Hi Melissa
Congrats on a great first appointment.
One word of caution though--I had Aetna--very similar to Cigna. Got my letter saying I was approved. Called Aetna and talked with them about my being approved-everything checked out. The one question I never asked---I am approved but by what type of coverage----I find out that I am normally 90% Aetna/10% me....noooooo--it was covered 50%/50%. I now owe $16,000
I am working on an appeal but I don't think I am going to win this. You might want to check it out before surgery.
In case you were wondering, I'm down 118lbs, 5 months out, and knowing now that I owe $16K would I do it again??? You bet I would. I would have just financed it better
Chris
Chris, thanks for the heads up...I did some checking back in October when I was trying to get my ducks in a row and was told this by my benefits admin:
the plan you would need to be on to have that type of coverage would be the OA+ plan. Here is the information I received from Cigna.
Bariatric services are covered in and out of network as follows: In Network $250 Deductible subject to 90/10 Coinsurance Out of Network $250 Deductible subject to 70/30 Coinsurance and also.. If you are on the oa+ and going in-network the most your hospital stay will cost is the $250 deductible and $1000 in co-insurance (10%) This would be if the surgery and hospital stay cost more than $10,000 that is what you will need to check with the surgeon's office on. So, I am hoping this means it will not cost me thousands and thousands?
