Hey, I just wanted to give you all an update.... First of all, Patti you are the best!  Thank you for all you did for me and especially updating for me... Secondly,  you all are the best...I appreciate all the words of encouragement and prayers!!  Dawn, Thank you again...you also made me feel better too! As for Joel,  about 4 am he woke me up and his bandage over the drain was completely drenched and leaking...we are ssuming this was the "pocket of fluid" that was infected...Dr McFadden came in about 6 and said that was possible.  Before I left for work, it had leaked again...and it was the worst smell I have ever experienced!!     I just spoke to him and he is still in pain (that had let up early this morning) and is up and walking around trying to work it out...still nothing by mouth and is just miserable!  His spirits are better and I know we will get through this, it is just going to be a matter of time-there is a chance of liquids by mouth this afternoon and going home tomorrow...but not to get our hopes up...Dr Bour said he wanted Joel to be fever free and pain free for 24 hr before leaving the hospital.  He had a temp of 101.0 this morning so I don't know... I do know that we have the best friends in the world, we are so blessed!!!   Love you all,   Deidre

AAAAHHHH MAN!!!! I'm so sorry about ALL of that. Especially the fact that he's been NPO for so long! That's NOT cool. I'll pray for him right now!  He HAS to keep his spirits up... his healing depends on that! I'm sorry that you have to go through that... but God is in control so just speak truth and watch the miracles fall from the sky!!!!

Thank you so much...God is good!!  I just spoke to him and I am passing on the replies...I am now just praying for that go ahead with liquids...I sooo can't imagine going without something to drink that long! Dr. Bour did come in and confim that it is the infection draining and the drain is being left in...since it is now serving its purpose!

Thanks again...Deidre

Hi Diedre My name is Dollie.  I live in the lowcountry, Summerville, to be exact.  I experienced the same thing after my RNY ~ I ended up having a second surgery to try to remove the infection.  Dr. Byrne said I had a flesh eating bacteria.  Needless to say, it took me longer to recover from the second surgery than the first.  Two major surgeries in two weeks was no fun.  You and Joel are in my prayers. Take care Dollie

OH MY GOSH...Bless your heart that is horrible!  How long was your recovery?  I am so glad everything is better Dollie!  It sounds like Dr Byrne is amazing as well!!

Thank you for the prayers!

Hi again The recovery was worse than from the RNY because I had a gaping hole my fist would fit inside of that had to be left open and packed with a seaweed type substance three times a day for about six weeks until it healed and closed up.  The pain following the second surgery was much worse but got better quickly.  I felt bad for about 6 months ~ I wasn't getting enough fluid, protein, exercise or anything else.  I feel that my age (I'm 55) had a lot to do with it all.  The younger you are the easier you have it.  I'm doing great now ~ the weight loss has stalled for a while but hopefully that will get better soon, too.  I've lost 120 lbs (mostly in the first six months).  Please feel free to contact me at any time.
