Hey Kathy!! I went to the dentist yesterday and they said I need a crown on one tooth and a partial crown on another. He said when he gets in there if it is too close to the nerve--I might need a root canal. Its the back left molar. I'm thinking I should just it pulled. Its $1800 vs $225. I have the dental insurance but its the root canal that scares me......having had a root canal--if its a tooth that won't effect your smile or chewing habits---what would you do????

Chris.. my sister is a dentist.. I'll tell you what she's always told me..  Whenever possible.. SAVE THE TOOTH.. you might think at this point in your life, you don't need that tooth.. but 20 years down the road.. that might be the only tooth left in your head..  I'm all about saving the tooth... then again.. I get all my dental work for free!

I'm vain about my teeth.  I would get the rrot canal. Now they made the mistake of putting a crown on first and then I ended up needing the root canal.  SOOOO they drilled trough my beautiful expensive crown and ended up having to fill it.  The filling took on the color of the inside of the crown...GRAY!!! I hate it.  I just got this part done yesterday.  I've already called and complained.  I paid almost $700 out of pocket for the crown and now I have an ugly tooth back there?!?!?!?  SOOOO now they are offering to make me a whole new crown at cost. I told them I would think about it since I am tired of looking at the dentist and everyone thinks I am beeing a big baby because I am the only one that can see it.  It really bothers me though.  I felt like I could have gone into the garage and grabbed a caulking gun and had something that looked about the same.

Well you two didn't give me the answers I wanted. Darn....I've never had a root canal before and I'm scared. They said I could get the gas and I said YES YES YES Its just the back molar....I don't eat alot of food anyway.  poohey.........I wanted you guys to strengthen my rationalization for getting it pulled Your honesty is appreciated....disappointing but very much appreciated

I was in so much pain, they could have probably not used ANY anesthetic and I wouldn't even have noticed.  After the root canal, my pain was 99.9% gone.  Even the Lortab only dulled it before. I was very very close to ripping the durn thing out myself with a pair of plyers. My hubby wanted me to just have it pulled, but only because of the cost.  He's a cheapo.

I'm scared...... I asked Melissa to take my place and she won't..... I don't have any pain when I eat---its just cold sensitive. Maybe I'll get lucky. OK---I'll save the tooth. darn........

OK here is your answer......... if you have an endodontist that is good, you won't feel a thing, it's no worse than having a tooth filled. If it wasn't so expensive I would have every tooth in my mouth done to prevent future toothaches. I have had 3 root canals and never had the first ounce of discomfort during or after,but........................I'm a woman and your a man, and most men are total whimps about everything, LOL! Hope that helped! Mary
