OK, OK, I know everyone is having or has had thinning hair problems and I haven't had much to say on the subject since I thought God was being kind to me by letting me keep my hair. Well, I must have really made him mad over the past few days because my hair is coming out bad. Also, my eyebrows, which have been falling out, are almost completely gone now and I look like this . Do they make artificial eyebrows like they do eyelashes? I can't go around in public like this with no face and thinning hair, god I look like a chemo patient. I am taking biotin and have been since before surgery, I take my optisourse vitamins like I should, I also take a vitamin and mineral suppliment for hair and nails, and I have always been able to get in my protein and still take extra everyday, so now I'm at my wits end as to what I can do. I'm really depressed about it along with just finding out that I have to pay 920.00 a month for my medical insurance on COBRA. I need to go get drunk and forget about it all. Wonder if booze stimulates the hair folicles? I guess I can always go out like this Your bald friend, Mary

yep, my hair did too!! Up you ZINC!! Take extra Zinc, it will help your hair. No Booze doesn't work, but will make you puke!! Also take your vitamins, if you do not take a GOOD BARIATRIC vitamin, I will tell you now....put down the barney and fred flintstones, or whatever brand, and get some good bariatric vitamins!!! Vitamins are the one thing I will not skimp on, after the surgery. You went through so much, and your body deserves the best it can have, and they only cost about 1.90 per day I think, or less, I can't remember....but its worth it!! www.vistavitamins.com is what I use. Eat protein, zinc and drink tons of propel and take good vitamins that will help...soon you will see baby sprouts growing, which is loads of fun, when you have long hair, but these cute little sprouts sticking up, LOL Love ya Deb

I do take a bariatric vitamin, thats what optisource is, our surgeon sells it and it's not cheap, 24.00 a month. According to my family doctor, I am not suppose to take extra zinc because of my thyroid medication, something with the zinc doesn't jive with it. But thanks for the advice anyway. Check with your makeup artist and see if they make the fake eyebrows, lol. Mary

Glad to know you are on good vitamins I think Dawn takes those too Ask your gastric bypass doc about the zinc, because usually you can, but not together with your vitamins, it has to do with the absorption...which we have trouble with to start with, because of our only to able to absorb about 1/2 or less of what we injest anyway. I am just thinking that your regular doc, your PCP, may not be thinking that we can't absorb most of what we take anyway, so it probably would not matter. My doc here always forgets when I mention things to her...I have to remind her that "our bodies don't absorb most of the nutrients and vitamins, that is why I am on special vitamins" and then she says, oh yeah, so you can up your dose on such and such. its worth a try if you are having trouble. Also, do not use rogaine!! The beautician told my mom, and another one told me out here...that if you use Rogaine, sure it will help, but when you stop using it, your hair will fall out!! The hair that was old hair, in other words, the new hair that was grown using Rogaine is okay, but the other hair will fall out. My mom has troubles with hair falling out because of her thyroid (which causes hair to fall out, so yours may be a 1, 2 punch, if you know what I mean...you have WLS and Thyroid issues against you). So, just don't use that shampoo, its hideously expensive and also you will end up with more hair out than saved!! Also, just double check with the gastric bypass doc about the zinc, since you are not absorbing it all anyway. I know that my doc here said we can take zinc, but not at the same time you take your synthroid, or whatever you are on. Happy Mothers Day!!

Girl, I don't know what to tell you. My hair fell out pretty good from 3-6 months. It has stopped now and you can see some baby sprouts. It is like baby hair again. I don't have any advice to give you other than take your vitamins and get your protein in. I did you Nioxin shampoo and liked it. It is a little costly but I thought it made my hair look thicker. I hope that things get better. Rachel

Mary honey....I know what you mean. Every morning I get a handful too. I have been taking silica and also Fo-Ti which is a chinese herb that supposedly helps with thinning hair. I too was doing really good then WHAM....a handfull of hair every morning! I got some of the hair-skin-nails formula today at the vitamin shoppe. We'll see what happens. It may be there's nothing that can be done but ride it out. Of course, I don't feel quite so bad once I talked to my mom...she thought when she started taking chemo that she would NOT lose her hair...that's what they told her about the chemo she's on. Well, about the same time mine started coming out, hers did too!! Fortunately she had a full head of hair and it's not too noticable yet! Maybe we can start a new trend...B.I.B. ( Bald is Beautiful!) We can take the $ we're saving on hair products and put it in a plastic surgery fund! I love ya! We'll get through this! Melanie

Yeah we can give a new meaning to BBW, instead of Big Beautiful Women, we can be Beautiful Bald Women, lol. The only thing I am saving my money for is COBRA, it's going to make me have to rob a bank to pay for it or turn to the oldest profession in the world, and I'm not talking about working in the hospital!.
