Getting Discouraged, need help PLEASE!!!
Hello everyone,
My name is Kim, and I'm new to this. I had my surgery on 3/7/07 and I haven't seen a lot of weight come off. It's like my body is holding on to every little calorie it can. Brief history late Novemeber of 06, I was weighing 293lbs, day of surgery I weighed in at 256lbs, as of today I'm weighing 232lbs. I'm not sure if my body isn't cooperating due to I was steroids for years due to me being a severe asthmatic or because I've lost 61lbs in 6 months. Can anyone give me advice on what I can do to get the scale moving again?
I've increased my water intake, I'm not eating anything that I'm not suppose to. I was drinking protein drinks because I was having a lot of pain when I ate solid food, but I'm not having problems with that anymore, so I've cut out the protein drinks.
I really don't know what else to do. I know have to eat even though I feel like not eating at all.
Does anyone know if the steroids would have an effect even if I'm not on them anymore?
Any advice would be deeply appreciated.
Thanks for listening
Sweetie because you are new out I would think you cannot get the amount of protein you need daily with just food...I could be wrong. WHat does your Dr. recommend? If you are not getting enough...add at least one protein drink to up it and see if that helps. What about exercise?
Do not get discouraged.....did you measure yourself? If not start now on the anniversary date of your surgery (eg., mine is 25th) then each month check the inches lost. Sometimes we lose inches but not many pounds..which BTW your loss is great!
Don't give up..I will be praying for you...

I think you are doing great. Don't get discouraged. Your body may just be stubborn. And I agree about the inches. I can see weight loss even when the scale does not move. You are fine. If you think something is wrong just call your dr. And I am sure you will get loads of advice today. I know I stalled too. I cannot do those protein drinks and such. But I do fine with meat. So I eat lots of lean meats. Best of luck..Love Jennifer
Hi Kim,
You started at the same weight I did and your only 2 months out I only lost 29 pounds my first 6 weeks out. You are considered a lightweight and may loose a tad slower but trust me it comes off. I'm at 144 now at 19 months out but got to that weight by 10 months out. Just keep doing what your doing and listen to your body. I always was happy about losing slow I feel like it is easier to maintain the weight loss.
Good luck,
Marcey
Hi Kimmi,
You are not going through anything all of us have experienced at some point after surgery. You are going to hit what we refer to as stalls. During this time for days sometimes weeks, the scale will not move but you will notice that you can see your feet now without leaning over and when you go to dry off after a shower you'll find that the bath towel now wraps all the way around you. You are loosing inches and I refer to it as the silent wow!! Keep eating and drinking and taking the vitamins you are told because if you stop eating enough, the scale definitely wont move and you'll get sick. You'll find that if you eat and drink like you should the scale will start back moving again. Give it time hun, and you will see the difference and feel the difference even if the scale says otherwise. You will be in ONEderland in no time. I was 254 the day of my surgery and now I'm 192. I was a size 24 and now I'm a 16!!! I wish I was down more lbs but I'll take loosing the inches! Hang on hun this can be quite a ride of emotions, we are all here for you though so keep your head up!
Robin
Robin,
How are you doing? Thanks for the encouragement, I was getting so depressed. I got on the scale this morning and it moved. I'm keeping my head up, and there are no more tears.
Are you back to work yet? I started back last week and it's taking a minute to get used to working again.
Congrats on the weight lose, you are doing great. Thanks for being there, I'm sure I'll need a swift kick every once in awhile.
Take care, Kim
Hey Kimmi,
I'm doing so much better. I got the feeding tube taken out on April 30th and I went back to work on May 8th. It is taking some getting used to but I believe I'm more frustrated at work cause I can't do my job. I've been gone so long I've been kicked out of all the systems I need to do my job, I spend all day finding things to do. I guess I shouldn't complain but this is too boring for words. I'm glad that the scale started back moving for you and hope you took Joan's advice to measure yourself and see how many inches you loose during the time the scale doesn't move. I must warn you that it will happen again and you will question why the scale stopped again. It's your bodies own way of loosing the weight at a safe, healthy speed. I'm glad you're back to work. Where do you work now? Maybe we can meet up sometimes at the LCBB meetings? I didn't make it today cause I'm exhausted!!! I'm going to shower, drink a protein shake and go my tail to bed girl!!! Take care and email me sometimes when you get a chance. [email protected]
