hi LN I have heard mixed things on this. I had surgery 2 years ago though and I can tell you this... I dont tolerate carbonation well at all, but my DR has told me that I can have it if I want to drink it. He has told me that different patients tolerate it differently. our pouch is so much smaller than what our stomachs used to be, so there is not much room for the carbonation/gasses in the beverage to break down. Personally It just was not worth it to me. It hurt my pouch, and i didnt like the burping that went with it..... lol. and there were not many sugar free diet sodas that were also caffeine free... so I mostly drink crystal light and water. Caffeine can dehydrate you and trigger hunger sooooo. that was tough on me. I honestly cant recall how soon after surgery he allowed it for me. I would check with your doc or nutritionist? good luck though. for me, coffee was the hardest to cut back on after surgery but now i have it again.....

Dr. Byrne and his nurse, on two seperate occasions, told me and a group of others that it would strech your pouch out. If he said it, I believe it. It's not worth the risk to me to test it.

I agree with Deb. I tried on sip but it was nasty. Never again. I can live with my water. Love Jennifer
