I just found a test site of a new calorie/protein counter, very easy, better than other online sites I have seen. It is free, and yes, you can pay for up to a part and get more features, but just for counting calories and sugar/protein, etc... www.thedailyplate.com Good Luck!!! I have had 400 calories so far today, but it says I need 1347 per day to lose 2lbs per week. I am not sure about that, but I am at least tracking my calories. I want to drop 10lbs more....its the hardest! Deb

Girll I really like it and it shows most of my foods that I eat regularly. Only a few like restaurant foods are missing the protein which is probably the rests...fault. Thanks....Joan

No problem!! I do like it a lot too, I think its easier than some of the others I have seen. I just need not to eat bad things and I am going to get back on track after the vacation to Hawaii. I am trying to really cut my carbs now, unless they are whole grains and really organic, and good for you. I need them for the constipation. I am taking Milk of Magnesia everyday, and it keeps me going, but I am also trying to push my fluids more. Glad it helped someone!! How are you doing?? We are good. Tommy is actually flying from Charleston today to Macon, and then driving back to Charleston today and flying back to San Antonio tomorrow, and hopefully home on Thursday. I hope we are going home in June, but not sure. I am praying for God's Will in me going back to nursing school or to Surgical Tech school. I love the OR, so I am leaning for Surg. Tech. School, but I also love nursing, and I love the idea of getting my LPN, and then progressing to RN later....the RN school would take me 4 years even after my pre-recqs, so I am just contemplating the 2. I just want to do something practical that I can have a skill/career in Medicine, and get a job anywhere, so I can have something to fall back on. The pay for Surg. Techs and LPN nurses is the same here, about $40k, which is what RN's make in Charleston. Please pray for me to decide. I love acting, but I want something I can fall back on. It would be nice to subsidise our income, and both schools would take about the same amount of time.....so its just a toss up of which school to do. Thanks for any prayers!! Love, Deb

YOU KNOW, WHEN WE GET OFF TRACK NOW, LIKE YOU SAID ON VACATION ... IT IS SO MINOR COMPARED TO WHAT WE USED TO DO BEFORE SURGERY ... HAVEN'T WE COME A LONG, LONG WAY?!!! I BET YOU DIDN'T GAIN ON VACATION, BUT BEFORE SURGERY COULD HAVE GAINED 10 #s EASY! VACATIONS & OTHER FUN OUTINGS ARE ENJOYABLE NOW CUZ WE DON'T END UP WITH MORE & MORE WEIGHT ON US JUST TO HAVE FUN. AS FOR THE "NO GO" ISSUE, I THINK I'LL TRY "MOM" ... I'VE BEEN PUSHING THE FLUIDS & IT HASN'T HELPED SO FAR. I'VE BEEN TAKING DUCOLAX TWICE A WEEK BUT THAT IS SO EXTREME. OH MY GOSH, MS DEB ... THERE ISN'T ANYONE MORE WELL-SUITED FOR NURSING THAN YOU ARE; YOU'RE SO KNOWLEDGABLE & CARING. SPECIALIZE IN BARIATRICS, GIRL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WE WERE JUST TALKING AT THE MUSC SUPPORT MEETING YESTERDAY & THE ONE THING WE WISH FROM MUSC WAS THAT THERE WERE NURSES, NUTRITIONISTS & THERAPISTS WHO HAVE HAD GASTRIC BYPASS SURGERY SO THEY CAN UNDERSTAND WHAT WE ARE GOING THROUGH. LIKE WHEN MS DEBBIE TOLD ME TO EAT 2 CUPS OF GREEN VEGES A DAY TO AUGEMENT MY MODIFIED LIQUID PROTEIN FAST, SHE HAS NO IDEA THAT I DON'T EAT 2 CUPS OF ANYTHING ... THAT WOULD BE 4 SNACKS A DAY OF 1/2 CUP EACH LEAVING ME ONLY 2 SNACKS TO GET MY PROTEIN IN. GOOOOOOOOO FOR IT, GIRL! GOD BLESS YOU ... DAWN & NICk

I MISSED THIS POST OF YOURS ... &, YOU WERE ON VACATION WHEN THIS SUBJECT CAME UP ABOUT CALORIES. I "HIT THE WALL" & JUST QUIT LOSING, AS DID MS SUSANN & SEVERAL OTHERS ON THE BOARD SO I E-MAILED DR B (poor guy, he didn't know he adopted us for life) & HE REFERRED ME TO MS DEBBIE, OUR NUTRITIONIST. ONE OF THE GIRLS HERE ON LINE MENTIONED THE "STARVATION MODE" AS TO WHY WE WEREN'T LOSING & THAT WE NEEDED TO UP OUR CALORIES, BUT IT TURNS OUT THAT GASTRIC BYPASS PATIENTS' MOTABOLISM ARE SO SCREWED UP THAT WE ACTUALLY NEED TONS OF PROTEIN KEEPING OUR CALORIES AS CLOSE TO 1,000 - 1,200 PER DAY AS WE CAN. SO, I GOT AN IDEA FROM THE VITA LADY & STARTED A MODIFIED LIQUID (VERY HIGH) PROTEIN FAST TO KICK START MY WEIGHT LOSS AGAIN ... I'VE LOST OVER 5 #s & SUSANN HAS LOST 2 #s & BOTH OF US ARE GOING TO THE GYM ... 5 - 6 WATER/PROTEIN SHAKES A DAY 1 - 3 PROTEIN BARS 1 PROTEIN PUDDING ... DEBBIE, THE NUTRITIONIST, SAID TO ADD 2 CUPS OF VEGES + OUR SUPPLEMENTS, OF COURSE. I'VE NEVER BEEN ABLE TO GET THAT MUCH IN ... ONLY ABOUT 1/2 CUP VEGES, BUT I KEEP TRYING TO ADD A LITTLE MORE. E-MAILS ... Hey Ms Debbie ... My question is ... am I getting too FEW calories/protein a day? My husband & several ladies on the board (several who are working with personal trainers) thought that at 1,000-1,200 calories/75 grams protein a day, I might be in "Starvation Mode" & that is why I'm not losing weight. I was told that to be in "Fat-Burning Mode", you must have 10-11 calories per pound of weight which would be a whopping 1,690-1,859 calories a day for my weight of 169, an increase of somewhere between 659-690 calories daily. They also say that for "Maintenance", you should eat around 15 calories per pound per day - Holy Cow, that would be 2,100 calories at my goal weight of 140. Does all this apply to Gastric Bypass patients as well? I look at my calories, but I really focus on my proteins, white carbs & sugars more - high protein with low white carbs & sugars. ANSWER FROM MY NUTRITIONIST ... From: Debra Petitpain Date: 04/18/07 15:48:10 To: [email protected] Subject: Re: HIT THE WALL Hi No, you are not eating too few calories either. These numbers you wrote do not apply to people with a weight history such as yours which changes your metabolism and needs. Start exercising and add some veggies and attend POSTOP and Transition Nutrition and keep up with the food diary. You should expect a weight loss of about 1/2 lb per week on this diet + exercise. Debbie GOD BLESS YOU ... DAWN & NICK
