You are so right. My DH is from Oregon, he doesn't get the grits thing either. Maybe you just have to grow up with them. I am making a grits breakfast casserole for next Saturday, grits, garlic cheese, eggs, cheddar, butter, YUM!!! I can't wait to see you. I bet when i do it will be at least 25 pounds gone forever. I'm so excited for you. I talked to Jane today. She had her surgery Thurs after you. She said that she is just TIRED. I'm going to try to get her to come next Sat. Have fun Friday. Mary Mary

Mary, My husband is from Oregon as well. The Dalles, what part is yours from? Is he a Oregon Ducks fan? Mine sure is!!! I'm hoping to make it next Saturday but you'll have to make me some seperate grits unless I can't taste the eggs because I sure CAN'T do eggs. LOL And I only hope that I'll see -25 REAL soon. You're such a sweetheart. Tell Jane I said hello and I would email her but I lost her email when my hubby reformated the computer. Can you send it to me again please? Thanks.

Confessions of a GRITS hater..... Ok.. I admit it.. I don't eat grits.. I don't like them.. to me.. they taste worse then the white paste I use to eat in 1st grade.. I'm not ashamed to admit I don't eat grits either... I've stood firm at family gatherings and refused to place a single "grit" on my tongue.. I've been told to add butter and salt and pepper.. I've been told to mix them with scrambled eggs.. Here's my question.. Why eat something that has to have it's taste masked by something else.. I eat oatmeal.. I like it.. the texture seems natural to me.. I don't gag at the sight or smell of oatmeal... grits to me are not natural... they look watery on the plates at Waffle House.. and in the pan.. after being cooked.. they look like mush.. I've tried them people.. I've placed grits in my mouth.. and gagged as I ran to the bathroom... And in case you are wondering.. I am a YANKEE ... I was raised all over the world as I am an Air Force brat.. but I call New Hampshire HOME... and I swear to you.. in all my years of travel.. I had NEVER heard of or seen a grit until I moved to GA.. When they were first put on my plate.. I assumed they were "Cream of Wheat" and dove in.. imagine my SHOCK and AWE when my taste buds we woken up to a foul taste.. so there.. I admit it.. I do NOT eat grits.. I don't like them.. Stephanie

Stephanie: You cracked me up with this. I too am a Yankee - born and raised in New Jersey. When my children and I moved here 12 years ago, I had never heard of grits. We went looking for a "diner" to eat some breakfast because we had no food yet in our apartment - (couldn't find the Shop Rite or A&P either) so, we stopped at Waffle House- sounded like a good place to eat. When my order came I had to ask the waitress what "the white, watery looking stuff" was on our plates. She told me "GRITS" - and I told her in no uncertain terms (you see my southern hadn't come out yet) that I didn't ask for no grits, I didn't want no grits and to get the grits off the plate. My kids were laughing - but to this day - they still won't touch a grit. Give them some plain ol hash brown potatoes and they're happy. Yet my husband, born and raised in Vermont, LOVES HIS GRITS. Then again, he's like Mikey from the old Life Cereal commercials. He'll eat anything. Funny how much I start to miss some Northern Favorites once someone brings it up, like pork roll, hard roll with butter, or Jimmy Buff's Italian Hot-Dogs. Guess I need to take a road trip soon. Yes they have exits in the South - but nobody uses them (or their blinkers) ) And if you ask where someone lives - they tell u a subdivision, not a street. Takes a little getting used to. Oh, how I miss Funny Bones and Ring Dings too. Colleen
