Is there a section in the grocery store, or a certain type of store in the Summerville area that I should go to for protein products? Where does one get this whey protein stuff? My surgery isn't until June 1st, but I'm trying to prep myself for the future...

Congrats on your surgery You will be a loser in no time. You can get Whey protein from Wal-Mart. That is where I found the cheapest. There is also the Vitamin Shoppe on the corner of Ashley Phosphate and Rivers that has TONS of protein. I think I remember someone else saying that the owner had WLS so she knows! Good Luck Julie

One word of advice... I don't reccomend buying anything until after your surgery, only because your taste will be changing, and what taste good now might taste like afterwards. Ask around to see if any post-ops might have some left overs or samples you can try before you buy. It might save you a lot of money in the end. Good luck with your surgery Mary

Yes definetely try before you buy. For example I have a $30 tub of nectar...I tried it before surgery and it was good but now.....well not my favorite.... Now Carnation Instant Breakfast - already made cartons...I liked them before and after. Its about 4.69 at Bi-lo for 4. However, I dont like the ones that I have to mix myself...not the same. Just let me know when your ready to try something and I'll be willing to help out. Also come to our Sat meeting Apr. 21 at the Vitamin Shoppe....they will have some things and coupons for us to try....as well as we have Saturday meetings at people's house's. Jennifer

Go to bariatriceating.com and see all of the protein samples. It is best to order samples at first so you can see which ones you like/don't like.... After surgery our tastes definitely change, so don't order too much... Susann

The Vitamin Shoppe on Rivers is where most of us go. Don't buy too much too soon. They had sample pkts of Protein Delite at The Vitamin Shoppe. I used and just ordered more, of the Tropical Blast and Chocolate of Protein Delite. It does taste the best and is made for bariatric people. I also used "Any Whey" which is also carried now at the Vitamin Shoppe that I used in my grits, refried beans, oatmeal....weight reduction kind, don't buy the low sugar kind, it actually has more sugar than the weight reduction kind....I prefer the cinnamon the best (green box) I also use Profect, they advertise right to the left of this posting column and sometimes I can't stomach it, but I try to sip it with ice. I hated the roadside lemonade, but I used the Any Whey in my puddings, everything....if it did not have protein in it, I did not put it in my mouth!! Take care, You will do great. You can go back if you like and read my old posts. Deb

I order all of my protein shake supplements from www.allthewhey.com. They are all very reasonable priced, even with S&H costs. The shakes are especially formulated for bariatric patients.
