Is this normal? I have fluid coming from my drain site where the drain tube is. It's clear in color not bloody. I called Dr Morgan and she's not in today but the resident Dr who was in the OR with her is suppose to be calling me back. Maybe I'm freaking over nothing but I noticed it and called. I had the BEST meal ever today too.. Pinto's and Cheese from Taco Bell. They were the BEST!!! I only had 5-6 tiny bites so I know I didn't over eat. I hope this is nothing bad...

Drain site is supposed to drain. It will do that even after the actual drain is removed. I think as long as the fluid is clear or pink, not the color of your food or infection, its ok. I'm glad you are feeling better today! Kathy

Thanks Kathy. I am feeling a little better I guess as the days go by I feel MUCH better. Thank God! The first 3-4 were awful! But after that it does get better. The fluid is clear so I guess I freaked over nothing. Just went to the BR and to drain the bulb and it was all wet around the site. Kinda scared me. LoL Thanks for responding so soon. ((hugs))

Hey Tanya, Mine leaked also so I guess it is normal. I think it is just the skin oozing trying to heal BUT keep it clean do not let it get infected. That is the worst. My scar where my tube was is the biggest scar I have on my body and I had my gall bladder and appendix out before this. Mine got infected on the inside though and made a large mass under the skin but laying on top of my ribs made it hurt so bad just to breathe. I am not trying to scare you just let you know that it can happen. I don't wish an infection on anyone. If it is still oozing tomorrow maybe you should call, if your wounds are not draining too much they can take it out early if they need to. Hope you feel better soon. Theresa "Tina" Z

Thanks Tina. I guess I was just freaking out over nothing. LOL My little boy comes in and says NO mommy I don't want you to go back to the Hospital it will be OK. He's so sweet. Thanks for responding so fast. I can't wait to have this tube removed. (((HUGS)))

My drain site poured fluid so much I had to change the dressing 2-3 times a day. It still drained a few weeks after getting the tube out, so it's all normal. We had to drink either blue or green food coloring in something a couple of times a day, that is to tell weither you have a leak or not. If the fluid turns the color of what you drank then that was bad news. Mine was a yellowish color and became thicker after the drain was removed, the nurse said that would happen and not to panic that it is normal . Hugs! Mary

I think that is normal. It is there to give the fluids something to drain into. I am sorry I had to go so fast when you called me today. I have had my hands full at home, and the incoming call was an emergency. I will check on you tomorrow when I get some rest. You rest too. Deb

Not a big deal. Even if it were bloody, it really isn't "blood" its serous fluid tinged with blood, which is a good thing. No big deal if it leaks. It will stop when they pull it out and sometimes it can still leak some. Wrap some sterile guaze around it and use some paper tape and that will help secure it. Make sure it does not hang wiht the bulb and make it pull hard, or hang, sometimes it can make it leak if it is not supported. Take care, you are fine Deb
