What the hell is wrong with this system?

One of the girls in my office went to one of those government agency's this morning. She spent 4 hours being shuffled from one counter to another... she's a single mom, and she's trying to get aid/assistance.. this summer she is going to have to shell out a lot of $$$$$ for daycare for her two youngest kids.... She has a deadbeat ex who is currently in jail for lack of child support payemtns... get this.. his child support payments to her are $39 a week.. and the buttmunch won't even pay that.. he would rather sit in jail.. ANYWAY... after sitting there for 4 hours.. she was called into the office and told that she makes to much money to qualify for any state assistance in ANYTHING.. no ABC vouchers for daycare.. no food stamps.. no rent assistance.. NOTHING.. The soical worker told her point blank.. you either need to find a job that pays $3 less an hour.. or have another kid to qualify for anything.... Arent these the type of people we WANT TO HELP!! ?? Am I missing something here? Who makes these stupid rules ? This woman comes to work everyday.. she pays her bills.. pays her taxes.. contributes to society.. and YET.. she can get no help.. Somethings wrong somewhere within the system !! Thank you for allowing me to vent....

Although I feel her pain, believe me she is not the only one. When my hubby and i divorced he refused to pay child support also. The only difference there is that the courts did absolutely nothing to him. I went to try to apply for food stamps for my son and myself. I was working any overtime that I could get because I needed the money. After waiting for more than 6 hours to see a case worker I was told that I was over the income limit by $10.00!!!!! They told me that I would have to cut out the overtime (DUH!!! I would not be working the overtime if I didn't need the money!!!) or simply quit my job and live off of welfare. I didn't want to live off of welfare because I felt it was my responsibility to support my child to the best of my capabilities. Therefore I can completely sympathize with her. I do not agree with the way things are done and yes, these are the ladies that they should want to help, but for some reason it just does not seem to be the case.

Hey Stephanie, If it makes you feel any better...I am on unemployment and I make too much money also with the few dollars I get in child support whenever I get it. And it is court mandated but they dont put him in jail either because he is paying something. I tried twice just to get food stamps the 2nd time after I hadn't received any child support in over a month and still made too much money they said. Yes I agree there is something totally wrong with the system. They take care of the people who sit on their ass and wont work and like to pop out kids...not the ones *****ally try. Jennifer

Stephanie: Years ago I was in the same position, a deadbeat who wouldn't pay either. He died owing me over $28,000.00 and his payments were only $50.00 a week for two kids!!!. Anyway, tell her to contact the YMCA for summer camp if there's one in the area- they have a scholarship program but she needs to do it right away, if accepted she will pay minimal for child care and they run a good, Christian program. My children, who are now 19 and 17 loved it and there was no "stigma" attached to the children being on a scholarship because no one knew except the office. Plus everything (field trips, etc) except lunch is included with the fee. Tell her I'll be praying for her. Colleen

Unfortunetly our entire government is f...ed up. Come to the hospital and see the amount of non working, welfare getting, lazy ass people who don't have to pay a penny for their hospital bill and get better care than those who have insurance. I have seen it too many times. Older people who have retired and have very limited income, sit there and cry wondering how they will pay for their hospital bill or afford their medications, because medicare won't cover a lot of things. They are limited in how long they can stay, and what type of care they can receive. It's so sad that our government is spending billions in another country, and they can't even help out their own people, and I mean the ones who need it, the hard workers, single parents and elderly. My son is a single dad, and he also has to struggle to make ends meet, with no help from his dead beat ex-wife, who manages to get money for drugs and free hospital care when she needs it. It's a sad situation for everyone and it's ashame we can't find a solution to this problem. It makes me sick having to see it everyday and feel so helpless. HUGS! Mary

TELL YOUR FRIEND THAT THERE ARE A TON OF PRIVATE CHARITIES & CHURCH MINISTRIES THAT MAY BE ABLE TO HELP HER. I'M NOT INFORMED AS TO WHO OR WHERE TO CONTACT THEM, BUT I'D START WITH A LOCAL CHURCH & ASK THEM IF THEY CAN HELP OR KNOW OF OTHER CHARITIES THAT HELP WOMEN IN HER CIR****TANCE. ANOTHER PLACE SHE MIGHT LOOK IS WOMEN'S BUSINESS ORGANIZATIONS AS THEY SOMETIMES HAVE PROGRAMS IN PLACE TO HELP WITH THINGS LIKE EDUCATION & BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES. SHE SHOULD BE PROUD OF HERSELF FOR BEING SO VERY RESPONSIBLE ... AS FOR ME, I'D RATHER MY TAXES GO TO HELP SOMEONE LIKE HER THAN THOSE WHO PLAY THE SYSTEM & SIT ON THEIR LAZY BACKSIDES PUMPING OUT UNWANTED BABIES JUST FOR GOVERNMENT BUCKS. GOD BLESS YOU ... I guess my biggest complaint about this is.. this is really the type of person who SHOULD be helped!! This is the type of person I want my tax dollars to go to! But for a social worker to tell her to get a lower paying job or have another kid? THAT is what blew my mind!

I TRULY UNDERSTAND. I HAD A FRIEND WHO WAS FIGHTING CANCER. NICK & I DID ALL WE COULD TO HELP HER. SHE WAS A WAITRESS & WORKED NO MATTER HOW HORRIBLE SHE FELT. HER ARMS WERE COVERED IN BRUISES ... SHE WAS IN CONSTANT PAIN ... SHE WORE BAGGY CLOTHES TO COVER HOW MUCH WEIGHT SHE WAS LOSING ... &, JUST LOOKING AT HER, YOU LITERALLY KNEW SHE WAS DYING. BETWEEN CUSTOMERS, SHE WOULD LEAN UP AGAINST THE WALL JUST TO KEEP FROM FALLING DOWN. SHE TRIED TO GET GOVERNMENT HELP ... JUST A LITTLE MONEY TO TEMPORARILY HELP HER FEED HER TEENAGE SON WHO WAS NOT ONLY IN HIGH SCHOOL, BUT TOOK ON A JOB TO HELP HIS MOTHER & WAS DEALING WITH HIS MOTHER'S IMPENDING DEATH. SHE JUMPED THROUGH ALL SORTS OF HOOPS, ANSWERED HUMILIATING QUESTIONS, PUT UP WITH HORRID SOCIAL WORKERS WITH CRUEL, ABUSIVE ATTITUDES ... DID WHATEVER THEY ASKED FOR ... ALL THAT & STILL SHE WAS DENIED. WHEN SHE CALLED TO FIND OUT WHY, THEY TOLD HER, "OH, WE DENY EVERYONE THE FIRST TIME. IT'S POLICY. IF YOU ARE REALLY IN NEED, YOU'LL REAPPLY. YOU'LL HAVE THE MONEY IN ABOUT 6 MONTHS." ON TOP OF THAT, SHE WAS FIRED FROM HER JOB THAT SAME WEEK BECAUSE SHE LOOKED SO ILL THE CUSTOMERS WERE BEGINNING TO COMMENT ... I PHYSICALLY HELD ON TO HER TO KEEP HER FROM FALLING AS SHE CRIED HER HEART OUT BEGGING ME FOR AN ANSWER AS TO WHAT WAS SHE GOING TO DO NOW THAT SHE LOST HER JOB. SHE DIED A WEEK LATER, PENNILESS. HONESTLY, IF I HAD GONE BACK TO THAT ARROGANT *ITCH OF A SOCIAL WORKER AFTER MY FRIEND'S DEATH, I TRULY THINK I WOULD HAVE BEAT HER UNCONSCIOUS, I WAS SO ENRAGED AT HOW THEY TREATED HER. Hey Dawn, I have to agree with you 100% on the lazy butts sitting home collecting welfare and having one baby after another with no father involved what so ever! My mom had 8 children and she couldnt even get help when she needed it. My dad made too much money they said to even get some food stamps! What a mess for the people *****ally deserve to get the help but cant. I think they have some nerve telling that women to stop working over time or have ANOTHER BABY ?? then she can get something. What is this country coming to? It sure gets me MAD as HELL when I hear that kind of garbage.
