I got home from the hospital at 2 today and I feel worse today than I did day 1. I can't keep anything down and I'm weak as ever. NO I did not expect to feel like a million dollars but I didn't expect to be throwing everything I drink up either. I ate 4 tini tiny bites of grits at the hospital before I left only because that was the only way I could leave. Then when lunch come around I wouldn't touch it. I don't even want to see food. But I want to drink but I'm scared to because it won't stay down. Please tell me I'm gonna get better as the days go by. I really want to just lay down and die right now.

Oh My Tanya! I feel for you! Keep trying to drink small, and I mean small little sips at a time. Find out if cold or warm is better on your pouch. I liked cold, but others couldn't handle anything cold. Get a 4 oz. glass and sip, sip, sip. Get you some sugar free popsicles and some jello. Anything to keep you hydrated. But know I will be praying for you! If you continue to have trouble, call your surgeon's office! I know if you can get through this, it will get so much better. each day will get better and better. You can do this! Praying for you right now! Terri

Tanya, It will get better. Yes, this is the worst part but it is worth the weight you are going to lose. I think we all feel like this in the beginning, I did for sure. When they brought me that pureed food in the hospital just the smell made me puke. When my husband took the cover off of it I thought I would gag. I thought "why did I do this to my body", which I found to be normal with most people. After the initial shock to your body it gets better. You need to find something liquid that you can keep down because although you can not drink water you may be able to drink something....like crystal light. I had problems drinking water at first but for some reason SF koolaid would go down easier. I think it softens the water. Don't let yourself get dehydrated like I did and had to be admitted back into the hospital a week later. That was the worst. Anyway, I hope you feel better soon and if you need anything let me know. Hi Tanya... we chatted last week a little bit.... glad you are home... and safe.. .maybe not 'sound' but you will be! you will be so surprised at how good you feel each day. I PROMISE! just take it day by day, and if you cant do that... take it hour by hour, or minute by minute if you need to. my doctor told me that being hydrated was the most important thing in the beginning. and that tiny sips were what we had to do. when i was in the hospital they brought me a little bowl of soup and it was clear broth, and they brought a cup of this high caloric drink that had no sugar in it.... but high protein. i forget the name now... its been 2 years and i am in my early 40s.... so please forgive me... lol. (i call it my mad cow diseased brain) what you need to do is focus on your body healing and hydrating these early days.... so rest, sleep as much as you can and sip.... make sure you are not in pain... stay ahead of the pain. and if someone offers to help you in any way whatsover TAKE IT!! if they want to clean for you or do your laundry ..... let them... i send you hug and a smile all the way from boston. if i could help you i would... if i was there... xoxo Jess

Tanya, you sound like I did. But it will pass. I was miserable. So sick. I was afraid to drink. It is hard at first. I am just getting to where I can take big sips of drink. Take little sips to keep hydrated. I didn't and ended up right back in the hospital 2 days after I left. The ladies on this forum helped me through it all. I will pray for you to get better. I am here if you need me. Love Jennifer

Hi Tanya My first day home was a little tough on me also. The most important thing now is to make sure that you stay hydrated so sip on as much fluids as you can tolerate. My first thought was "did I do the right thing" but as the days have gone by, I know that I did. You have to remember that you had major surgery and everything is so new to you. I promise it will get better. Just make sure that you get as much rest as you can and don't over do it and if you are unable to keep anything down, make sure you call your doctor. I know that you will do just fine. I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers and hope that you are feeling better soon. Melanie

Well I definitley don't wanna end up back in the hospital so I'm forcing myself to try different things. The fruit punch crystal lite I can NOT drink. It just won't go down and if it does it comes right back up. This was my favorite before surgery. I'm sipping on Soup at Hand right now and it's going down good. I'm not in any pain at all and haven't been since my surgery but I had some major migraines that made up for the pain from my stomach. I can't keep the pain meds down I threw them right back up but if I don't need them it shouldn't matter right? Thanks again ladies for all your help and support. I really appreciate it all. ((((hugs)))))

I am amazed that you feel like being on the computer. I didn't for at least a week. I hate that you are feeling so bad, but believe it or not, it will pass. Just sip on something to drink. I even got the little tiny 8 oz bottles of water to sip on so it would stay cold long enough for me to drink it. I also drank apple juice. I ate things like sf pudding and apple sauce. At first you may not feel like food, thats okay, just sip something to drink or suck on a pop sickle. Call me if you need me. Deb

Hi Tanya, I'm glad you found something to keep down. Don't worry about protein or all of that at first. Just keep yourself hydrated. Dr.Byrne told me that at 14 days so it's good advice. I'll be thinking about you and if you need ANYTHING please call ok? It'll get better soon.
