I hate my job sooo much today.
Its not hard, its just that they expect me to perform so many technical things that I have no training for and becasue I am able to do it, they continue to pile on more. HOWEVER, I am compensated at the same rate as any old secretary.
THEY ARE TAKING ADVANTAGE OF ME!!! I am ready to quit.
Since I have started this job, I have taken on the FULL responsibilties of 2 people they laid off, Some of the resposibilities of IT, some Engineering, some standards and certification, some accounting and some purchasing. MIND YOU , we have people in every one of those positions. Actually we have ROOMS full of people in every one of those positions. But they always have these meetings and someone says "Kathy can do it..." and then I end up with one more thing on my plate. Since the sale of our company I have also gotten some LEGAL responsibilities and now some SALES responsibilities for overseas. WTF!?!?!?!?!?
And I am still the only admin required to help out on the switchboard. Only 5% of my job is actually administrative stuff.
If I don't get a raise at my next review, I am quitting.
Thanks for letting me vent.
I feel your pain sister. The more they know you can do and are willing to do, the more they will give you. I've been in my present position for 7 years. I have done everything in this office at one time or another. I've filled in for paralegals, legal investigators, criminal investigators when they were on maternity leave and other medical leaves. They all know I am the "go-to" person for anything and everything. Yet, I've been passed over 3 times for promotions because I don't have a degree. I took secretarial science for 1 year, and quit before I got a degree. These jobs i've been passed up for are all positions I've filled in for months at a time. I don't get it. I know an education is a wonderful thing, but experience goes so much further on getting a job done. I'm going back to school this fall to get my paralegal degree so maybe this won't happen to me again. If they don't do me right after that, then there are other places to work besides here.

Oh my gosh our stories are almost exactly the same.
I actually quit my last job because they wouldn't hire me for the job I had been filling in for for months because I don't have a degree. Then they expected me to train the person who got the job! ha! Those asses got my 2 weeks notice instead. Lucky I gave them that.
What's funny was that once some of the other organizations associated with this one heard that I had left, they kept calling me at my new job trying to hire me. So I KNOW I was noticed.
Hey Kathy,
Boy do I know what your going through. Ive been at my job as administrative Assistant for 8YRS and all they do is switch me back and forth at their convienience.
IM their Receptionist/ Adm asst. They also have me training anyone new that they hire but I havent seen a raise in almost 4 yrs!!! I also dont have any degrees but do as much as any of them that do have one.
Whats up with that? I dont know how many times Ive told my husband Im going to look for another job because Im so sick of the BULLS......T that goes on there.
My boss had her sister working there who NEVER ONCE came in on time.
Her hours were 10:am to 6:00 and she would come strolling in after 12:00 and go home at 3:00! this went on for about 2 yrs and she finally quit.
There are always people coming in late and nothing gets said to them
Its just a wacked out company. But when I told my boss ( a women) that I would be out of work 2 weeks because of my RNY surgery she was like " what? 2 weeks is too long" Well I took my damn 2 weeks anyway! I thought the hell with them. let them find someone to do my job for a change while Im away.
Well, Thanks Everyone for letting me VENT LOL and good luck to you Kathy.
Denise

I'm so sorry Kathy that they are treating you like that.
They don't know what they have. Is there someone you can talk to about it? I bet you never get praise either do you? I'm having one of those days too. Already had to take 1/2 an ativan at 7:30!!!! WTF??????
I'll be thinking of you! Hang in there....this weather doesn't help any.

I need an ativan. Right now I want to eat everything in sight to make me feel better! I even want to shop like crazy!! And I have had in pretty much under control until now!
I do get praise, but it is usually while or right after they have royally screwed me. So I know they realize what they are doing.
*******s.
What in the %#&^ is going around with these employers. See my post below. I had that kind of day yesterday and want to quit my job now, but the benefits are too good.
I know that you are worth 50 times what they pay you. We need a work funded shopping trip to help us feel better. I still want a low cup halter top!!!

I really believe the whole corporate environment has changed. that is why they treat us so badly!
All the people "up top" care about is what benefits THEM. No more thinking along the lines of, "if you treat your employees right, they will do good work and remain loyal."
They keep us around with threats and intimidation. They know we need the benefits, etc. to survive now and believe we can easily be replaced. The dollar is the bottom line. Greedy *******s. That is why there are such outrageous salaries and benefits to CEOs and people like that. They control it. Its disgusting. I hope all that money keeps them cool in hell.
Seems like being a good person and a hard worker gets you nowhere in life these days. What kind of message should I be teaching my daughter? "To be rewarded here on earth you must claw your way to the top, step on whoever you need to and keep them down once you get there." What a horrible unfullfilling life these people must lead!
I want to SCREAM so badly right now!!!!
Venting is good. Vent, vent, vent.
That's actually one of the negative aspects of being intelligent and capable ... when people find out, they take advantage of that fact and pile on more and more responsibilities. They wouldn't do that if you were stupid and a slacker.
That doesn't help a bit, does it?
Sorry you're miserable in your job, honey. I wish money was no object ... we could go buy that little boutique next to Whole Foods and play with the bling all day long, and call it "WORK".
When is the next review? It sounds like, with all those jobs they pile on your plate, your pay needs to be up there with all the engineers you're taking care of!
Hang in there ... it's Hump Day ... maybe the rest of the week will be easier.
Love ya much,
Dawn

I see my therapist at lunchtime today. I hope she has her kleenex ready. I am on the verge of tears I am so angry.
And just to let yo uknow how bad that is, let me list the stages of "Kathy's Anger" starting with the least angry.
1. annoyed
2. disgusted
3. yelling
4. hitting
5. breaking things/cutting people
6. crying
and I have had to skip 4 and 5 because I am at work...
