Hey There, I've just become a member on this website today and already I feel like there are such warm people involved here. I'm not very adept at using message boards, which is kind of funny because I'm relatively young... I'm having WLS at MUSC soon and I heard of LowCountry Bypass Buddies there. Does anyone know this group? How can I find them? Also, any other advice for a newbie like me would be much appreciated! Thanks! Jenn ;-)

Patti was not lying. I am here is Charleston and Welcome! The LCBB's meet on Thursdays at 6pm at the Pizza Inn on Rivers Ave. The best advice I can give you is to ask any and all questions on this board and of Dr Byrne's group. No matter how stupid you think it is. We are here to help! We have all been there at some point or another. Where in Charleston are you and who is doing your surgery? You are in fantastic hands at MUSC. They have taken good care of all us. Again Welcome and please feel free to ask questions. Julie

Hi Julie and Patti, I'm in Summerville and have a surgery date set for June 1st with Dr. Byrne. I'm a teacher, so I have to wait until the summer. I've already gone through the two mandatory meetings and the first clinic visit. Do I need to call anyone to reserve a spot at the LCBB meeting, or can I just show up? Also, do people who are preop usually attend, or is it a group for those who have already had their surgery? I have to say I'm so excited to find this group. It's so nice to find a group of people who know what I'm going through. Both my parents had gastric bypass back in the 80's, so they have been a big help. But, their process was also quite different... Anyway, thanks for the warm welcome. I look forward to getting to know everyone! Jenn

Just show up and look for us. I have not been to a meeting since they moved it to Pizza Inn but I think I remember Susann saying they are in the back part where the kids can run. ANYONE and EVERYONE is welcome! Pre-op, Post-op Like Susann says we just sit around and talk, very informal. Family members are welcome, husbands, children, significant others, friends. I have not been in a while, I shot pool on Thursday nights but we are about to go on a break so hopefully I will be there next week I miss them so much. The group started with 2 ladies from this board wanting to met and talk and it has grown from there. It is a great support system and I personally feel the reason for sticking with the program and having done so well. I encourage you to come out Thursday and met them. You will love them. I hope to met you there soon. Julie

Hey Jenn, my name is Debbie Grooms. I also live in Summerville. Have you had your surgery yet? I am only 2 months out from having had my surgery, Feb 7th. I started going to this group about 3 months before I had it, and I never dreamed of finding such a wonderful group. They have taught me so much. They are warm, caring, helpful and loving. We meet every Thursday night at Pizza Inn on Rivers Ave at 6pm. Sometimes we meet on Saturdays and we even had a out of town trip last month in Myrtle Beach. While there several ladies from the upstate of SC all met up with several ladies from the lower state, and we had a blast. There was about 24-25 of us. I hope you can join us on Thursday night. Welcome !!!! Deb

Hi Debbie. I can already tell that this group is awesome. These replies are so nice and helpful. Hopefully I'll be able to make it to Pizza Inn this week. I also have a friend at work who has had GB and she is interested in coming too. But, she's taking a class for her education credits and has to wait until that's over. How long do the meetings normally last? My surgery is scheduled for June 1st and I'm really excited...and a little nervous, which I'm sure is normal :) So, 2 months in, huh? How's it going? Do you have any advice, either that was given to you by others, or that you have learned in the process? Thanks so much for the warm welcome! Jenn
