Hi all.... My Summerville Relocation package arrived today. I have to say.... this is one of the prettiest towns so far that I have been investigating in South Carolina. I am so anxious to come to the area and scout it out. I need to find out about jobs and rentals, etc. I also would like to attend some support group gatherings. (well, I would prob only get to one!) Unfortunately my funds would only allow me to get to one or two trips before I can really get down there. I am very serious about my dream of moving to the south though... so any and all advise is welcome. I have to get some plastics done first and am battling it out with my insurance company right now. So, hopefully this will come to be soon. Thanks, friends and Happy Easter. hugs, Jess

Hi Jess and welcome to our board. The LCBB group meets on Thursday nights at the Pizza Inn on Rivers Avenue in No. Charleston (not far from S'ville). They let us eat at the child's menu price and their buffet has a wonderful salad bar. A lot of us eat the toppings off of the pizza or they have thin crust pizza that is good too. Contact me when you are coming down and I will make sure we get you to our meeting. Also, if you are coming down by yourself and need a place to stay, let me know. At present I have an extra room (although I am looking for a roommate...but only looking by word of mouth)... E-mail me at [email protected] and let me know what types of jobs, housing, etc. you are looking for. Maybe I can be of help. Susann

hi Susann, thank you so much for the very sweet "southern hospitality" Yes, i have been around on these boards for a little over 2 years.... I had the surgery 2 years this May. Its hard to believe!! So, Now I need to get one plastic procedure for Medical reassons, and I would "like" to get one plastic procedure for 'vanity/cosmedic' lol reasons.... soooo we shall see.... after that I will then very much like to come down to SC for a visit and will definately contact you. I would like to stay in the area and drive around and see what is what. i have done so much research online and through books and have made so many phone calls, but you just cant get a feel for a place until you have visited it time and time again. But i read all of your posts, and lurk here from time to time. you all seem like the nicest group of people. I just need a fresh start so bad. Even my surgeon (My wls) suggested it... soooo. This is the area I have my heart set on!! HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE. hugs. xo

I know you will love Dr. Byrne at MUSC. He is who alot of us in Summerville/Charleston see. Not all of us, but several of us. Summerville is beautiful. I have lived here all of my life and it is growing so fast. We like the schools and out football pride runs deeps with the Summerville Greenwave. You just missed our Flowertown festival. This time of the year there is alot of things going on. The beach is only about 30 minutes from Summerville. I hope you can visit our group when you come. We have a wonderful bunch of caring loving people. (I would say women, but Eddie too ) If you stayed with Susanne, you would be in great hands. Welcome to South Carolina!!! Deb

Hi Jess: My name is Dollie and I am part of the LCBB. It's really a great group. I also live in Summerville. It really is a beautiful town (not so little anymore) but still beautiful. Whenever you decide to come down, I have a guest room ready for you as well. What kid of work do you do? Google is opening a new data center in the Goose Creek area in the near future. If you have any computer experience, yu might want to look into that. I understand they are great to work for. Take care! Dollie

Hi Dollie. Gee... you really are a doll. thanks! I am sitting here watching the news and they are calling for a spring snow on wed/thurs.... lol. maybe I can come then? lol j/k... Anyway... I am having a very emotional few days. but I am trying to get through it and I tell you.... you folks are surely making me feel better. I actually broke down and cried at work today. For many reasons.... one was for a good reason, because I read an obitiuary of a man who died suddenly. He was 65, and I know that is not young, but it is TOO YOUNG and it was sudden and I had just seen him a few months ago... and it just struck me. Also, my heart was broken this past January... and I dont know when it will heal? How long does it take? I thought that by the time I hit my 40s our hearts wouldnt break as hard as when we were younger.... lol. But it doesnt get any easier does it? Anyway... Dollie, your post was so sweet... and it was very kind, so thank you. I got home from work today and in the mail was the Charleston & surrounding area Apartment finder guide! Looks like tonight's reading material... I am waiting on plastics approval... its frustratig... i really dont like blue cross... lol and then i will hopefully... god willing... get that done and heal and then come for a visit. geeeesh.... sorry that answer took so long. lol. just trying to get to know you all better. hugs.

Too bad I am not there anymore, I was a Realtor in Charleston area. You can go to a few websites to look at homes. www.charleston.net is a good one, the paper, for rentals. You are better off going through the paper for rentals as Realtors don't make any money at all showing rentals. its ashame, because out here in California, they get a ton of money, like $2,000 or more, in SC I did a few rentals for friends and I got about $100 for each of them after days and days of driving them around, it is not worth it, so you may want to look up a rental company, but they are harder to deal with. Odessa Company is a good one, Christian, and I recommended people to them a lot. If you are in the military, you can go to the base housing office and look at the listings there too. Welcome to SC, You will LOVE IT!!! Deb

Thanks, Deb. Let me ask your "professional" opinion for someone who wants to relocate..... Is it better to move and move into a place and store your stuff... and then find a job.... first. and then find permanent residence? Is it better to come down and get a 'temporary job' and start interviewing for permanent jobs? the whole process sort of baffles me.... any words of wisdom? This is something that I have been pondering. I dont own any property. I dont have a high profile job. I make 'decent' money, but not great. I do need benefits.... but might be able to work out cobra for my health insurance.... I just know that I want to be out of New England before the holidays next year... I cant face them alone again... it was too sad for me going through a break up and without family last year... So, I am planning this now and i know it takes a long time to do all these things. Thanks, and any thing helps.. no rush! J.

Hi Jess I do not live in the Summerville area but have a good friend who does and it is growing fast but is a great place. I live on one of the islands, James Island, right off the coast. When you come down, you get a hold of us and we will show you EVERYTHING! We will play "Tourist in our own town" and take you around the area. I think you will really enjoy Summerville/Charleston Area. Alot of history and good people. Keep us posted on the plastic struggle and hope to met you soon. Julie

Julie, thank you so much. I have a phone call to place at 9:30.... (50 minutes and counting... haha) to blue cross.... but I bet I will get voice mail... so say a prayer for me... please... they have been giving me the run around. I just know in my heart this is the next step in my journey called 'life' and I know i cant jump into it.. but I know that I need to make a change. Go**** just feels like everything is a 'fight' lately and I know life isnt easy and it shouldnt be.... but shouldnt it be at times? Thanks for your kind offer. I would never want to put anyone out.. but I would LOVE to meet you and all these kind folks somewhere and espes. at a support group meeting. I also really need to find a place I can afford to live and a job that will afford that. lol I dont ask for much. just someplace i will feel safe and happy and where i can laugh and love again! hugs!
