"SUGGESTIONS"

Hi Everyone! I am new to the site and this is my first post. I'm currently 9 days post-op from lap-gastric bypass and I seem to be having a real hard time with the pureed diet. Nothing tastes good to me. I've been doing alot of soup broths, drinking 100% juices, 1% milk, and my water but just can't stand the taste of anything else. I know how important it is to get my protein in, but just have not been able to do it. I'm hoping that maybe someone might have some suggestions for me to get me through this "pureed period". Thank you so much and I'd like to wish everyone much success for reaching their goals and look forward to being part of this website. Thanks again, Melanie F.

Melanie, Congrats on the surgery! I know you will do well. The first month was quite difficult for me as well. NOTHING tasted good. I can make a suggestion for protein. There is a website (www.allthewhey.com) that offers a very fair priced protein shake especially for bariatric patients. It comes in a variety of flavors. My favorites are chocolate mousse and mint chocolate. It is specially formulated with whey protein isolate and is really easy for our new pouches to digest. And it tastes like a real milk shake when you mix it with 1% or Light Soy Milk. I would suggest that you go to the website and check it out. You will not regret it. Good luck with your weightloss. I had surgery about 10 weeks ago and I have lost 52lbs. I feel like a new person.

Hi Melanie, If you go to bariatriceating.com you can order a protein sampler pack. it's about $25 and you get about 15 samples. I found my protein there and have stuck with it. buy the sugar free popsicles and creamsicles. the little crystal lite packets are good too just add it to water and see if you like the taste sometimes just a little bit of flavor can help get the fluid in. I made chilli and pureed it , put it in ice trays and nuked a cube when it was time to eat, I needed to have something spicy as everything was so bland Hope this helps, it does get better honestly lesley

I have a friend who uses Ocean Spray Lite juice (Walmart has a crystal-lite type cranberry juice drink that tastes like the real stuff) and soy protein from the Vitamin Shoppe in it. Cottage cheese pureed with salsa might be an option for flavor for you if you like that sort of thing. Wendy's chili pureed is something I have heard a lot of people have used.

Hi Debby, Thank you for all the wonderful suggestions. Out of all of the juices that I have tried, the one flavor that I haven't used yet is cranberry so I might give it a go and I'm going to give the chili a try. Thanks again, Melanie

Hi Melanie and welcome... I don't know who your Dr is but Dr.Byrne told me at 14 days post op to just concentrate on my vitamins and keep my liquids up. He says "you have the rest of your life to eat protein but don't end up in the ER for dehydration." That took a lot of pressure off of me because, like you, nothing tasted good! Hope this helps!

Hi Sundi, My doctor is Dr. Byrne as well and thank you for passing on what advise he gave to you. I just keep thinking that if I can make it through this pureed phase everything will be ok. Thanks for taking the time to chat with me and I look forward to chatting with you soon. Thanks and good luck Melanie

Hey, Congrats and Good Luck!! No offense to Leslie, but a lot of us do not support Susan Maria anymore, and her stuff is a LOT more expensive than other places for the same exact thing. She just supports things that we do not believe in, long story. The Vitamin Shoppe now sells Sci Tech's Protein Delite, which is THE best tasting protein powder to mix with Carb Countdown milk. Get off the 1% milk, the lactose will make you sick and not feel well. The Chocolate is the best, and I loved the Tropical Splash flavored. Any Whey Protein powder is also at The Vitamin Shoppe and it is really good and is totally dissolvable and tasteless. You can mix it in sugar free puddings, etc.. Just stay with high quality proteins and you will do well Oh, do you have a magic bullet mixer?? That is a great gadget, and I would boil a few shrimp, and add just a touch of tuna salad maker, low sugar, and it tasted wonderful, like a shrimp dip....also tuna, you can do the same thing. A splash of lemon juice is also great! Good Luck to you!! Deb
