this and that - OT from wls
hi there,
i have been researching the area and toying with relocating for a while..... any tips or words of wisdom are greatly appreciated. i currently am from just outside of the boston area.
so if anyone wants to private msg me... that is ok, but i would love any feedback.
ideally i want to stay near the coast by within an hour....but cant afford to be right on the coast. anyone know waltersboro?
i could make this IN TOPIC by saying... I had my weight loss surgery in May of 05 and now I do need some PS, and am awaiting insurance approval, after I get that I am going to bust my butt to save to make a move. I want to 'restart' my life.... and thought of South Carolina as such a BEAUTIFUL area to do it in.
Jess

Hi Joan,
Conway is further North from where I am looking to go (I'm done with being North.. haha)
Thanks for the congrats. I stuck with the rules almost 100% and worked so hard, and it did pay off. Now I am hoping to have some PS and then make a fresh start with my life. I lived my whole adult life... well, up until the surgery, obese or super obese... and I find that I am not relating well in my current surroundings. Plus I have always wanted to live in the South.
Why (if you want to share?) are you making your move?
I am not stuck on Walterboro, its just around the area that I am searching out... its about an hour from the coast and I would not want to be too much further inland. Although Columbia may be a great option. So far I have only done all research through internet and books and the media. I have travelled to Florida and North Carolina. A trip will be in order when I have in further narowed down.
I am so ready to start this next phase of my life, but with limited funds I need to be smart about it.
I wish I had your 'faith' but I m a bit 'jaded' so maybe you could pray for me...

I live in summerville and it is very nice there it is not to far from Charleston. so is Goosecreek a very nice area and there is a very nice sopport group in the area. Also MUSC hospital is in charleston and they are a circle of exceallance on bps.You also want to be around an area that has jobs available and this area is a growing fast spot. Hope you have luck with your move. Rose
Hi Rose,
Thanks for responding!! We have a town called "Somerville" a city really, just outside of boston.... probably not anything as nice as your town..
Goosecreek has a real homey sound that is appealing to me also! Yes, I Do need to be in an area with a lot of jobs _ unless i win the lottery soon... ha!
I'm in the very early stages of this planning process, and I really appreciate all the input and all words of wisdom. Perhaps after I have PS I can take a week and fly down there and drive through a few cities and scope things out. I would like to find a good support group too.
I cant see all of this actually happening for 1 solid year, but I do hope it does happen.
Thank you, Rose.

Walterboro is about 45 minutes from Charleston. It's more in the country. Not sure what kind of work you would be doing but Walterboro isn't a very big city and the morning commute to Charleston would be about 45-minutes to an hour to Charleston the closest big city.
Don't get me wrong it's nice and quiet there but too far away for me.
Good luck on your journey.
Tanya,
wow, see... from all that I saw online I thought Walterboro was a big city.... lol. Thank you for the 'inside' scoop!! I am just starting to learn things. Like I said... prob wont be before a year. I dont think I would want to drive 45-60 min. I have skills that would be in the Office/managerial level. Although I have big dreams of maybe opening up a little side business, you never know? So, I wouldnt want that long of a commute. I nice quiet community sounds nice, but I am in my early 40s and single so I am hoping to meet a nice single guy in my age range when I get there!! That is my other goal!! I have a lot of goals!!
I am going to need a lot of support group help I think (once I arrive!) Its been an amazing 2 years since I h ave had this surgery.
Thank you for your input, Tanya.

Go with Summerville. I lived there for a long time before I married and moved 45 minutes away to a town the world left behind. If it wasn't for my husband I would be in Summerville. Excellant schools, plenty of shopping and lots of places to work. And it's beautiful there. They have the Flowertown Festival every year. It's not real close but not to far away from the beach. Not to far from Charleston,Goose Creek and Moncks Corner. And my granddaughter lives there so that makes it even more special. Hope this helped you out. If you want to know more just ask. I loved living there. Jennifer
Hey,
My father's family is from Walterboro and we still have my grandparent's house in the country that we use for holidays, family time, and for my mother to send my father to play at when he starts driving her crazy now that they are retired.
Walterboro is a sleepy small southern town. The people are friendly, lots of social activities are through the schools and churches. It is located in the "ACE Basin" which means there are lots of swamps and wildlife. Every other car there is a pickup truck with a gun rack and set of deer horn, so be ready to meet some real live rednecks (including my brother and cousins).
Lots of people in Walterboro commute to Charleston for work. It can take everywhere from 45 minutes to an hour and a half. Please email me if you have any specific questions. I've always wanted to retire there.
Hope I was helpful
Mary
