Ok...My hair is falling a lot. What are the master secrets to help? I know about the hair vitamins. But, please offer suggestions that are tried and true. I'm 4 months post op, so I know this is normal but I'm worried it will all fall out. Rachel

He Rachel My hair started "shedding" at about 3 months. Now it seems like it is all coming out! I even went and got it cut up to my shoulders. Now it feels a little fuller. I have heard that it will stop. Apparently my hairdresser says some of her clients have had the surgery and their hair fell out between 3 and 6 months out then started getting better. I know....not a straight answer but, hopefully it helps! Jodie

What has worked for me are Nature's Bounty Hair, Skin and Nails vitamins (from Wal-Mart or Krogers, they're in a pink box) and LOTS of protein. Don't worry -- it won't all fall out. I was terrified I'd end up bald, and most people didn't even know I was losing hair unless I told them! *hugs* Lisa

I bought some of the vitamins but I saw how much calcium was in them and got scared that I might be Over Dosing on Calcium I don't know if that is even possible!! Thanks for the assurance that I won't be bald!! Rachel

Well, if you have the same vitamins I do, it has 80-something percent, but you have to remember that we won't absorb that much, and it's not in the right form to really do us good.... I take three HSN vites a day, three Flintstone's Chewables, and 1200 mg of calcium citrate a day. Unless you're taking calcium supplements, too, I wouldn't worry about it (though obviously I don't worry about it, since I'm taking the supplements, but then again I'm also postmenopausal and osteoporosis runs in my family so I go for as much calcium as I can get! ;) Lisa

I just take a bioton capsule that I got from the Vitamin Shoppe (no nasty taste.....I have issues with vitamins that taste bad !!). And I got Nutri-Ox shampoo, conditioner and treatment from Sally's. All of this together seems to have helped me. I have regrowth now, and some of those new hairs are a little wild. Hugs, Dianne

Oh wow. The is the MAIN thing I'm afraid of from the surgery. Every time I read something about someone losing their hair I get second thoughts about the surgery. Is there anyway at all to prevent it?

i was afraid that might scare the pre-ops.. Dont let it! Seriously.. only people who have noticed my hair loss is my mom bc shes seen my thick hair my whole life.. everyone else is suprised when i tell them its thinner now. and if i had to chose between thin hair and wearing size 12, or thick hair and wearing size 26, i would chose this in a heartbeat. So dont let the hair issue waiver your decision for surgery. that baffles me honestly lol.. i wouldnt let anything stand between me and surgery especially the fear of losing a little bit of hair.. and ur question about prevention, you cant prevent it completely.. but you can lessen it by making sure you get plenty of protein.. which i didnt do so if that gives you an idea then hope it helps! and dont worry over it, its not that big of a deal.. people are so busy noticing the weight loss they dont see the hair loss! jen

I'm afraid there's no way to prevent it, because it's a side effect of surgery and the low food intake afterwards. Keep in mind, though, that it's ANY surgery, not specifically bariatric surgery, that causes you to lose hair. I started taking Hair, Skin and Nails vitamins before surgery to try to prevent the loss, and took them again as soon as I could after surgery, and still lost hair. HOWEVER, like I said before, I'm the only one who noticed it (well, OK, my hubby did too, but only because I made him keep cleaning the hair out of the brush so I wouldn't get too depressed doing it!) And it is only temporary! Lisa
