I just want to bite and chew something

Hi all, well I'll be 2 weeks out on tomorrow and have lost 18 lbs so far. I'm so happy to see the weight coming off but I miss chewing food so much. It's not even the taste of food I'm craving, its just the opportunity to actually bite into something and chew it. I'm still on the puree diet for another 2 weeks and just don't know how I'm going to survive it! I called my dietician and cried and bent her ear so that helped. She gave me more "liquid" recipe options but good grief this puree stage is hard. Robin

Robin, I remember that cream of chicken soup was my best friend. I would even add some chicken babyfood for the protein. Sounds gross, but the thickness and lots of seasoning helped. 18 pounds is wonderful. I'm so excited for you Mary

Hang in there. You are almost there. You can do it. I did some soups. Get some of the Progessive soups and blend them before heating. I also did alot of the cream soups. Also try the instant cheese grits. I added a pat of butter and more cheese and handled them fine. We can have those and it has some texture to it that may help with the chewing craving you are having. Get some no sugar added Granny Smith Apple Sauce, especially if you like tart apples, if not try another apple sauce that has no sugar added. It may help. Hugs Julie

Oh how I remember the days. Except, I wanted to taste everything that I couldn't have. It wasn't the crunch but more so the taste that I desired. As for the crunch, try some SF popsicles or crunch on ice. That might get you some crunch feeling in. They make some good SF popsicles. I think there is a lifesaver kind that are really good. I wish you luck. Hang in there. Not long before you will be eating regularly and fighting the deamons like we do! Rachel

Robin I think everyone can relate to you. I found that Progresso Tomato basil soup was a life saver for me. It has a great taste, not like the Cambell tomato soup. Also grits with cheese were good to me, (make sure there runny). I did alot of crushed ice too. I didn't miss the chewing as much as the selection of food. Judy

I LIVED ON CREAM OF SHRIMP SOUP (CAMPBELL'S, I THINK) WITH ITTY BITTY SHRIMP ADDED TO IT & I CHEWED IT TO DEATH. THE REALLY TINY SHRIMP ARE SOFT ENOUGH NOT TO CAUSE DISTRESS. &&&, I WOULD GIVE MYSELF A TREAT OF A SF FUDGECICLE OR SF POPCICLE ... YOU CAN BITE INTO THEM & NOT CAUSE PAIN TO YOUR POUCH CUZ THEY MELT GOING DOWN. &, WOWOWOWOW ON THE 18 #s!!! GOD BLESS YOU ... DAWN & NICk

Ahhh, chicky, You can eat.....you are 2 weeks, so you are pureed right? Go ahead and take a tiny bite of a saltine or something and chew it until its mushy, mush, and then swallow. That is how I did it. I also licked the crud out of some doritos around week 2 or 3 haha It satisfied my craving for something salty. Also, the refried beans with some cheese and a little warm water added till runny is yummy. Taco bell: Order 1 cup of refried beans NO RICE, and 1 cup of just plain meat, and you will need to drain it, its a little greasy. Mix the beans and some meat and some water together, and also get some shredded cheese on the side....stir together, and it is a slurry. Dr. Byrne was impressed with that invention, and it was my first meal out. You can always eat out mexican if you order those 3 things and mix with warm water, which they have for tea.. Deb

Thank you all so much for being there for me and for understanding! You all gave me some good ideas that I plan to try. Can't wait to lick a dorito! I ordered some chocolate flavored calcium lozenges from bariatriceating .com and they were so gross and hurt so much going down. I looked at the ingredients and the first one was fructose!!!! Isn't that one of the hidden forms of sugar that's listed as a no no in our blue book of health? I couldn't believe it, those things cost me $21! I've really got to get better at reading ingredients before I put things in my mouth. I should be ok to drive today since it's 2 weeks out so I'm going out to do a little sugar free hunting if my energy level stays up. I'm down 20 lbs this morning and feel great about that. Hot bikini here I come (or at least a bathing suit that fits like a swim suit and not a dress!) whoo hoo I'm on my way now sisters! Robin
